Two Bonkers CDs have been in the rotation for a few days now. They're a hardcore techno group with various DJs on a multitude of releases. The Pizzacato Five, an interesting light rock/jazz band, have recently been added to my playlist, as well.

Hell yeah. I want a dvd with that video, and the Devil Eyes video, on it. Internet video compression eats all those pixels for lunch.
didn't he mention that he would be doing a dvd?
Get the rest of the Architecture in Helsinki album, it's pretty good. |

mostly i've been listening to breakcore and ragga mixes i've been finding online. highly recommended djs to check out: www.kidkameleon.com, djripley.blogspot.com, and www.baseck.com. bascek's side project sonic death rabbit are pretty fantastic too, anyone who's into chiptunes and black metal is pretty much on direct orders from the Emperor to check them out (www.myspace.com/sonicdeathrabbit/ )
i know about toups, but does anyone here promote/record/distribute/etc their own (or their friends, or their clients) music? i'm trying to get more involved in the DIY aspects of the music scene, if only because that's pretty much because you have to do it yourself if your music is this obtuse and crunchy. and forward-thinking, too. |

Rjd2. MIA. The New Pornographers/AC Newman.

The last music I bought was two singles Handsome Boy Modeling School The World's Gone Mad and Richard Ashcroft Song For The Lovers
These days, I've mostly been on The Verve Urban Hymns, Jars of Clay Who We Are Instead, Modest Mouse The Moon & Antarctica, The Shins Chutes Too Narrow, Radiohead Kid A/Amnesiac/I Might Be Wrong, and Explosions in the Sky (live sets). |

Whew, how is Ashcroft doing solo? Urban Hymns is a damn good piece of music like bitter sweet symphony....
btw, i rediscovered a medium i thought it was dead long, long ago - music-cassettes.
And now i'm searching for musik to "upload" on a cassette just to have that "back then"-feeling when CD's where ... evil (well, at least the players where really expensive).
Medium Wars Episode III: The Music-Cassette strikes back. |

The single I bought was the first single released from his first solo album. The a-side grows on you, and is fairly good, but doesn't appeal all that much to me. The the first b-side is pretty weak, and the second b-side I'm still trying to decide. (I've had the single for a number of days now, and initially I thought the entire thing sucked hard).
If you'd like, I can email the b-sides to you. Let me know what format you want it on.

| I think the general consensus regarding Ashctofts solo stuff is that marriage and kids have taken a bludgen to his muse, resulting in some pretty insipid stuff. Some of the singles (Song For The Lovers in particular are good though) |

Thanks alot for the offer, but a friend of mine has it and should bring it over tomorrow or the day after. But it seems unfortunate that Ashcroft seemed to miss out on putting up another big shot ... oh well *listens to Urban Hymns*
btw, is anyone in Manic Street Preachers these days?

aaah, New Order. i think of "true faith" immediately if i come across the name, and then i remember that ... insertcredit'ish music-video they had. ... yes, i think some people here would really like that music-video.
i discovered some hours ago my "Back to the Future I - OST" cassette ... and it's still pretty cool, however i can't remember when they did play "Time Bomb Town". And i should search for more music of that guy/band. |

i didn't notice them until "if you tolerate this, then" and haven't really looked after their "4 people"-albums, so i might try to find their latest one. |

Ho-ho! Hi there.
I noticed that Need New Body is touring with Pit Er Pat. I doubt I'll be able to go, and it's a shame because they're both amazing bands. Anyone who can should go and completely freak out for me. Insanity! |

Asheville, NC a while back. They kicked my ass with awesome, and played a bunch of their new stuff. Good times. Next time I see them I'd like to find a spot where I can see them, though.
I'm dying to see NNB. They're the most crazy-ass, perfect band for me. These dates and cities don't look too hot. I may have to wait until I move up next to D.C. to catch them. |

By the way, how is NNB's new album? I've heard it is nowhere near the level of UFO, but that is simply what I've heard from others.
I really, honestly have to go to one of their shows before I die. I would imagine it would take great strength to control every muscle from working. |

I've been buying CDs like a fiend as of late, but only a few merit any comment.
Both of The Shins' albums are pretty good, though I honestly can't make out what's being said in the first album without reading the lyrics sheet.
"Demon Days" is kind of disappointing in that it doesn't go all over the place as "Gorillaz" did, and lacks Del. However, for the former, at least, it makes it a better album as a whole.
Finally, I just discovered Flogging Molly, and shit. I haven't had a group "click" with me that quickly in a long time. |

Yeah I heard that album in HMV in Ikebukuro and was...pretty floored.
So recently then:
Pillows
Melt Banana
Jeff Beck
But of course, mostly thrash/speed metal:
Coroner
Toxik (HOLY SHIT!!!)
Hexenhaus
Defiance
Fastkill (probably the best thrash album I've ever heard www.fastkill.net
Exodus (the early demos)
And a bunch of Japanese death metal demos, whose band names are terms culled from medical dictionaries that I will never remember. |

I read an article on this HK newspaper about musical hallucinations. :(
It happens to old people. Their senses get fucked up and they can hear music even though there's no actual music ya dig?
Google it. The more music you listen to in your lifetime the more chances you will get it. |

Well.
I've decided that I wish to compile a complete Richard D. James discography. This will be. . .hard. Considering that I can't find any CDs anywhere under any of his psuedonyms.
Grrr.
Anyway, yeah, I've been listening to Aphex Twin/AFX/Caustic Window/Polygon Window constantly for the past three days. Well. That mixed with the Katamari Damashii and Silent Hill 2/4 OSTs. |

Sigh's Hail Horror Hail is being played often. Is it their best? Maybe. Less black metal is always a plus.
And Finntroll, in the plenty.
Too bad I'm not metal enough anymore, or I'd quit listening to so much Xmal Deutschland.

I've been continuing my forevermore love affair with Jason Molina, exploring French accordianist composer Jean Pacalet and his undersea landscapes, coming to grips with the violence of John Zorn, and fighting to get my sister to appreciate the awesome intelligence of The Fugees so she'll turn off 50 Cent. (I let her put 50 Cent on in the car and I was shocked that anyone would listen to that.) I haven't made a new purchase in some time now, but I look forward to new music by Sigur Ros and Boards of Canada this fall.
I've also been thinking about the way I listen to music and realizing that I sort of divide everything into two groups: organic and structured. My own inclination has always been to love highly structured music like, say, post-rock, where you can pick out every instrument and its part and hear how they intertwine. I am fascinated by the relationship between a piece's fundamental repetition and the different parts that are laid over or through it, using it, building from it. Structure. Yet I love so much that is the complete opposite of this, such as free jazz. I'm still listening and working out my own musical mind. |

Closer is still the better Joy Division album (and it might be the best 'album' album, I haven't decided yet); I had forgotten just how many good tracks there were on Pleasures. |
