knife from ff6.

Isn't the knife spelled Gradius like the shooting game?

That's what I thought at first! And so gradius is the nick i've traditionally used in irc, quake 3, etc. Which is fine because gradius-the-konami-game is cool too. But then when I played ff6 again about 2-3 years ago, I noticed that it was spelled graedus.

I guess we both misread it originally. Compare google search results for something like ff6 atma gradius to ff6 atma graedus and you'll see what I mean.

Maybe it's a translation error then? I would need to see the japanese writing.
Also I thought of the weapon in real live which is spelled Gradius.

Gladius, actually. It's where the whole gladiator thing came from.

yes and yes. like Rya.Reisender said, "gladius" is the correct spelling of the real sword type. i think i've seen both "gradius" and "gladius" as weapons in other games. the R-L mixup is of course a common translation error, and i guess they also mangled the second part of the word when translating ff6.

My friend gave me the idea for my name, he swears up and down that Gunshin means "war hero" in japanese. I never did find out whether or not he was right.
