If you're going to bring this back from the dead, I might as well post this:

I always thought moe was emo or something. I've only recently begun to watch anime regularly, and even then not that not much, but from what I've seen so far there's really nothing good about moe (-like?) obsession. And what I've seen so far concerning this consists of Perfect Blue and Boogiepop Phantom (up to episode 5 now, it's starting to grow on me).

what? unless this is something new that's happened in the last year or so, I'm not sure this is the case. Even by American standards, they rape their natural resources and national resources. Or maybe I've been informed incorrectly, which may be the case since I could see the cultural revolution being the source of a lot of desire for cultural preservation.

I will add to Psiga's post this and this (wait awhile you'll see it).

edit: I just noticed how old this thread is. oh well.

was that released before Genshiken was released?
it pretty much looks like a copy of the image the genshiken-members had in mind after they watched a Kujibiki Unbalanced-episode ...

I think the Genshiken manga was around before Welcome to the NHK was. Could be wrong!

It isn't to say they don't work against themselves, with the advent of commercialization, the ability to preserve culture is waning. The thoughts of those in China are behind preserving their old ways, which is why the country has remained what many people consider to be economically backwards in modern times. Even though they have now begun to adopt a similar western influence and consume all their natural resources as a more ridiculous rate than before, there is still a pervasive thought of preservation, even if it cannot be articulated or actuated.
