I'm in the library of the University of Louisville waiting for my first class of the semester to start. I'm kinda excited since this is the start of my engineering courses which I think will be more useful then my music education focus of semesters past. I know the vinculum gate is going here as well (hey man, pm me your dorm and phone number so I can drop by sometime) and I thought about how a bunch of you are starting college (or attending at any rate) right about now as well. So tell us what is going on, you college peoples you.
I remember spending one semester doing nothing but playing Rez in my spare time, showing it off to a couple dorm friends of mine. I cleared that sumabitch 100% complete in three months of off and on play. I wonder what I'll spend my free time with this semester? |

Have fun. My cousin's fiancee went to Louisville and really liked it.
My (now ex) girlfriend left for college last night. I was quite sad. |

I'm still in school. I found out a few semesters back that the dept. of liberal arts never put me down for a history degree, so I slacked off in business to catch up in history a year and a half or so for nothing. Oh, wait, I'll get to have a minor in history, which is about as satisyfing as gentle kick to the groin. I forgot to take an early history class, so I took it this semester; I just got back from it, and the only thing I got out of it is the feeling of being ooooold.
I did take latin for a bit - salve. Since I'm finishing up this semester with a minor, I won't need to take it anymore, which is a shame because I was really enjoying it. |

The best thing to do this semester is to re-play all your favorite Xbox games in preparation for the assault on your gaming senses that Xbox 360 promises to be.
Have you checked out the new PGR3 trailers yet?

the four and a half years I spent in college was easily the best time I'd ever had in my life. homework sucked but it was really the only thing I ever had to worry about for four and a half years.
i figured my life pretty much hit an apex in college and is on its way down now, unless I happen to become a millionare at some point and am able to buy a Ferrari or yacht. besides that how can life get any better than college? |

My next semester won't start until the middle of october (living in Germany) but I won't have much time for anything since I've got anatomy and dissect courses (don't know if that's the right English term... I'll have to cut dead bodies and stuff) and since the whole stuff is a fuckload to learn I'll probably spend my whole time at the university.
But until then, loads of free time! |

University here is a bit different from college in the US, I think.
If you study anything serious, you have an awful lot to learn and not much time for anything else.
I might be under false impressions regarding the US college education, so correct me if I'm wrong but most of what I heard about it involved girls and alcohol. |

My psychology teacher has one arm. And is gay.
He gave us a speech about how a big problem people have, with psychology, is that they tend to try to use their own intuition too much. He said, actually, psychology has its own framework of rules and structure, so very little of it has anything to do with common sense; using it will only get you in trouble.

You're almost there.
These days undergraduate schools double as a holding pen for a public education system that coddles it's students instead of preparing them for careers.
There was a remedial math course at my college.
That shouldn't exist. |

Hey guys...
Fuck you.
I am in a remedial math class. Mainly for the reason that I am twenty-five and this is my first semester of school since I graduated high shool five years ago.
This is a big opportunity for me, and my wife and child are counting on me to do well here. If this class weren't in place, I may not have been accepted.

I like college ok I guess. I goto a school with about 40,000 students enrolled and it's pretty crazy. It's not a traditional university as it's located downtown and most of the students are older than 25. I'm beginning to like it less and less as I'm going into my 4th year just because all the stupid bureaucratic shit gets really old at this point. Watching corporations taking over my school and the financial aid system to the glee of the administration who is supposedly all progressive and shit pisses me off.
That's what I get for going to a university that costs like $5,000 dollars a year but it's really all I can afford. While the school is incredibly crowded we do have some decent professors in certain departments. You just have to know what classes to take otherwise it will feel like a community college.
I hardly ever play games when I'm going to school unless it's on my GBA or DS. I bought a laptop awhile back so that should allow me to get more work done. |

Fuck you back, dumbass.
I was pigeon-holed into one, as my university would not accept my AP calculus credits due to my choice of curriculum. As I refused to take a placement test, I was placed in the "history of mathematics", a euphemism for "let's teach you how to add."
I don't know what constitutes a remedial math course where you're attending, but a syllabus consisting of division, multiplication, and basic algebra is a waste of resources and tuition. |

Is psych 200 the standard first year psych class? That's what I took and I loved it. Except for this annoying gay guy who kept trying to come up with reasons why he was probably gay. And then he cried. |

Heroin.
Actually, I don't know because I've never met or hung out with many Philosophy majors in real life. However, judging by all the ones I've met on the internet they seem like the more slightly, tightly wound, reserved type. |

I just finished college. And I still work at one. In fact, right now I should be entering in the vote breakdown of the 1965 German Bundestag election, but fuck that!
I think college depends a lot on who you meet. I liked the classes and all, but I mean, I wouldn't have had a good time if it weren't for the group that I found.
I was Political Science and Ecnonomics, which are both populated with loads of dumb people. Mostly people trying to get into Law or Business school and don't reallly have any interest for the material.
As for games, I played a lot of PC games my first year since I didn't have a TV, but after that I played a lot. I was an RA and people (usually a group of around 6) would come and play tetris/dr mario, mario kart 64, and goldeneye all night. It was fun. People would hang out in my room playing through older games like Ocarina of TIme.
In my later years as an RA, I noticed a distinct move away from old school games in favor teh xboxen. Madden and the like were a favorite among the freshman, although I did introduce them to Katamari Damashii. I also had like ten kids in my room when I played the last third of MGS2, which made for some fun. |

| I leave for the University of Anchorage (that's alaskan) in two days. I got a roomate in an off-campus apartment. Not a clear idea of what I want to do yet, but I'm leaning towards Journalism. Our local high-school is a total joke, so I feel I am quite behind on just about everything, but am willing to work hard to catch up with everyone. |

I can relate to you on that. My highschool was so goddamned ghetto that I think I came out more fuckin retarded than when I went in. It took me about a year to adjust to college style courses but I'm doing alright and stayin above 3.0 now. Some classes I've taken were pretty goddamn hard too, and I really just took them to see if I could hold my own. Like this Transnational Urbanism course where we had to read the craziest goddamn book ever. Academic dick waving at its finest. |

Philosophy is my second major, so I dunno if I count as being representative of the bunch. Most Philo majors I've met are generally pretty nice guys. Not all of them actually want to become "professional philosophers" as it were, but most are genuinely interested in the material. I don't recall too many people in it just for the easy degree.
EE majors on the other hand, well, the weird ones in EE are very, very weird. |

I'm still just going to Valencia Community College here in hotter-than-Hell Central Florida, as I understand it will be cheaper and easier to get some of the required, transferrable stuff done now, then go off to a 4-year afterward. Hopefully sooner than later - as much as I enjoy freeloading at home, I'd like to get the hell out of this area (this STATE if I can manage it) because really I'm just plain sick of it. Florida is dull, doubly so if you live there for 18 years and only leave it twice.
I think I'm still majoring in something related to programming, at the moment, but as I understand it, career options for programmers around here are basically:
- EA's Tiburon Studios
- Fighting for one of the few non-outsourced jobs at just about any other employer
...so that might very well change, as much as I dig that stuff. |

Apparently what I think and what I type are two entirely different things.
I meant to ask, what kind of philosophy are you most interested in. I, for example, happen to like philo of mind and ethics. |

I leave for college in about a week, (this sunday in fact). Attending Rochester institute of technology, which is in New York. The major I got accepted for was information technology or something close to that. I think I'm going to change it. From what I've heard, it's a rather large waste of time.
Also, this is my first post here. |

I'm an English major. Which is cool.
The catch is, I'm a pre-med English major, which is less cool; I was kind of coerced into this by my mother. She was like "FUCK YOU, YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO GO ANYWHERE WITH AN ENGLISH DEGREE." And I was like, "But, pre-med? What the fuck?" And then she reminded me who was paying tuition and the argument ended there.
But, yeah. I'd better do something about this before it gets serious. |

| I've been going to college for 3 years now. This fall is my fourth. I still haven't declared a major, but I'm going to declare accounting soon. I've already fucked around for 3 years, taking a ton of classes that ended up pretty useless like 2 semesters of japanese and a class on musicals, and a bunch of CS classes when I thought I wanted to major in CS. But I'm gonna focus on graduating now, and I'm probably going to take summer classes to get done quicker, which up to now I haven't done. |
