|
I have a large number of mp3 files that are too fucking quiet, and I want to make them louder. I need a program that can change the overal volume of mp3s, preferable multiple at once (but I'm not optimistic about that part). Does anyone know of such a thing?
Thanks in advance. |

can you reencode using whatever program you convert with? the frontend i use has a normalization option.
psiga was running a limiter on his mp3 player; a good one from ozone, iirc. |

MP3Gain is the best one, because it does not just do peak normalization, as many normalizers do. Instead, it does some statistical analysis to determine how loud the file actually sounds to the human ear.
Also, the changes MP3Gain makes are completely lossless. There is no quality lost in the change because the program adjusts the mp3 file directly, without decoding and re-encoding.. Check this site if you have any more audio related questions. |

This is the only reason why I'd be willing to recommend MP3Gain, really. Anything that would re-encode is just silly considering the crickety madness that MP3s already are at low bitrates. The thing about batch normalizing is that it makes the files easily edible for portable MP3 players, which can't do the lovely plugin dance in real-time.

Oy vey.
Well, before using mp3gain, I got some WMA-MP3 converter to make sure it would catch everything. Then I ran it, it went through everything, I told it to make everything louder. It did.
Now windows media player is dead.
When I run it, it just freezes after a few seconds. I can't even DREAM of trying to access the library. On a good day I might be able to get it started playing music.
What the fuck happened? |

That's the problem with looking for help on the internet: The solution to a problem with one program is always to abandon it and use a different program.
Maybe I'll listen, though. Winamp ain't that bad. |
