I've only played 2, but I love it, and it's $10 new.

You also have to know, going into it, that it has the absolutely WORST translations and voice acting EVAR. Which can be a good and very entertaining thing.

i know, it's hilarious! ^-^
but my ps2 is a non-modded jap one, so i'll have to do without the additional comedy gold...

See, I'm looking for the titles of the following games:
the first two from 2005, the last one from 2003 and that 2002 Simple2000-game.

How's Shapeshifter on the PC-Engine/Duo? It looked pretty cool, and some guy gave it a nice review, but I trust your tastes more than I do some stranger's.

Also, Kazu, if you're wondering which of those 4 games is a worthwhile purchase, I'd snatch up Twinkle Star Sprites. There's probably a ROM somewhere if you really want to try it out.

Actually, it's the sequel to Twinklestar Sprites, although playing the original would certainly give you an idea of its gameplay.

it's from Valkyrie Profile ... and probably means that you "purify" souls which are loitering around places where evil is bound to appear.
It probably has something to do with the Edda, but then it might not since it's from Japan and a J-RPG.

thanks @luvcraft for the translation.

Not that I'm aware of. I've played with the CD and via emulation with the stock sound plugin and I haven't noticed a difference between the two.

The sound seems completely screwed up during story sequences and sometimes footsteps sound like water dripping or something.

I would play it on my PS2, but it's at home.

That was a rumor from before it was released. There is some sort of firmware hack/DS cart sort of like the Passme that you can use to switch it though, but I don't know what it's called.

Now that you got me thinking about it, yeah, I remember the footsteps of your avatar sounding harsher on ePSXe. As for the story sequences, I can't say I hear anything different.

I also sort of tune the background noises out when emulating, so the finer stuff may be lost on me. As long the sounds are close enough to the context of your actions (and not ear-shattering, but isn't that a given? :) ), I'm fine with it.

What? All I've ever read in related forums is that it's impossible to do it without a physical mod, because it's not a firmware thing, it's a hardware thing.

Shit, you're right. The thing I was thinking of (available here, found from IC's frontpage a while back!) only allows mapping of L/R to X/Y, not changing A/B's assignment. And it's a hardware mod.

Something else... which I'm afraid only Chaz might know about, but here goes...

Okay, maybe if ANYONE can answer my question, it'll be there.

So I have a few pieces from this set...

The Mega CD/32X combo. I also have a mini Genesis... not the Mega Drive... which came with a special book:

http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-lu-77-7-49-en-15-mega%2Bdrive%2Bbook-70-del.html

The thing is, the Mega CD doesn't snap on too well, and I can't even fit the 32X at all. Is the Mega Drive in the set and the Genesis from the book made from the same mold/the same thing? Or do I need to get the default Mega Drive replica?

Does a guitar-esq device that sounds diferent depending on what NES cart it has fitted in exist? Or any other instrument of the genre (like a keyboard?)

Because I just had a pretty good idea how to build one, but then I had the feeling I saw it somewhere else.

Let me hear your thoughts on this one.

A local record store offers okay to decent amounts of cash for games. They pay on a basis of condition and how old the game is. I brought the following into the store:

Maximo
Hitman 2
Alien Hominid
Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance

The offered: $15 ($2.50 for the first two, $5 for the other two).

I mean it seems pretty low, but the first two games net only $0.50-$1.00 at EBGames, and I've yet to check on the other two, but I doubt they offer that much.

I mean, I don't play the games, so I'm pretty willing to get them out of my hands, but I want some sort of return on them, too. The store has a used copy of King Kong for $15, and from what I hear that's a half-decent game, so I could just swap for it.

So, whaddya'll think? I don't do eBay, for the most part, so that's out of the question. I doubt I'd get much of anything from there anyhow. I could put them in the Trading Thread, but I've done that before and haven't gotten any bites, so to speak.

I mean it's nothing to get worked up over, and I'm well aware at least two, if not three, of those games have Greatest Hits versions (or -esque, in the case of the Castlevania 2-Pack), but I don't want to give 'em away for pocket change, either.

I don't think you really can get anything out of them. Just return them, I'd say.

Anyway, so I downloaded the Rumble Roses XX. And I liked it (I mean the gameplay). In fact, it's the most played demo I have (other than Lost Planet, which I just managed to beat today).
Is it really worth buying?

Yes, Subsistence basically makes the original disposable.

You can decide which camera style you want and on top of that you get all those extras that came with it.

Though that new camera style is so gosh darn sexy and fluid that I would see no reason to even think about using the older "first person take a few steps and repeat" style. The newer camera makes being stealthy so much better.

The main reason I wanted was for more Snake vs Ape.

This.

Also, I don't know about everyone else, but my copy of Snake Eater (and several others's's!) had an odd habit of stuttering non-stop through radio dialogues. I owned Snake Eater for over a year before I actually played the game through the Subsistence version, just because the stuttering thing was such a problem.

Also, for my earlier question: I got the $15. So consider it nullified.

EDIT!: Is the Sony headset worth the $20 asking price? All I'd have to use it with (so far, anyway) is just Metal Gear Online. I mean, does it really make that much of a difference, in either strategy or fun, or both? And is there a cheaper alternative out there?

well, you could use one of those gameshark (or is it action replay?) boxes that plug into the parallel port in the back. that will enable the use of cd-rs too. thing is, that port only exists on early revisions of the playstation, as sony never (as far as i know?) came up with a legitimate application for it and removed it from later revisions.

For a while (they might still do it) Lik Sang was selling special discs that they claimed would let you play burns / whateva without any hardware mod or gamesharky thing. Mine was already modded when I found out about it, though, so I have no idea if it works.

If you have a Playstation with a parallel port, I'll sell you a cheaty hoodad that supports swapping. I bought a whole bunch because several friends said they wanted them, but then when they arrived the friends all flaked out. Stupid friends.

Like this. And it will let you play most burned stuff, provided it's not a funky copy of Spyro: Year of the Dragon or one or another game with wacky protection scheme that wasn't cracked properly, meaning most stuff on the internet right now works.

It looks like it's the same mold to me, but they might have been sloppier with making those then they were for the ones in the capsule release. The 32X and megaCD both fit together great with the megadrive. The megaCD doesn't "snap" in (the megadrive just sits on top of it) but the 32X does.

Oh man does this question need a quick answer:

So I bought a Laptop the other day for like 500 bucks. I was basically looking for a glorified typewriter that can play all those glorius games I missed like Planescape Torment and the Fallout series, and that is pretty much what I got. My question then is thus:

Would it be worth my time to upgrade the RAM from 512 to 1gig? The thing comes with your basic crappy parts: 128 video card, 80g harddrive, 1.86ghz processor. Would purchasing the RAM be worth a wooden nickel, or would I see relatively no difference because the rest of the computer is made up of crud components? I'm basically looking for faster application running because I'm taking it with me next year for my study abroad extravaganza in Japan, meaning I won't really be playing any games on it.

Also, I would get the 512 chip for like 40 bucks. Worth my time?

I guess it would be safe to go with it. My computer is slightly better than that laptop with 512 RAM, and it runs like crap and tends to hang a lot.

My question:
Where is the cheapest and safest place to get a fliptop mod/swapdisc combo for my v4 PS2?
Also, I unexpectedly got 200 extra bucks and have no intention to buy anything in the immediate future other than Dead Rising and the IIDX 13 OST, which I already have covered.
WHAT DO I DO WITH IT? (I was thinking Rumble Roses XX, still)

modchipstore.com, and it only took 2 days. I think that Play-Asia's Summer Sale is going on now, so you can pick up some nice stuff too. I think that the latest discs might actually be the same price as some of the older modchips, so you might want to look into those instead.
