The one thing I was waiting for was some sort of confirmation that Senko no Ronde works on the Asian X360 system. And maybe Project Sylpheed, whenever that arrives. Also whatever happens to new Culdcept will determine which region I end up getting.

Please for USA release and no region lock!

There's apparently a Fushigi No Dungeon game for the Dreamcast, subtitled "Asuka." Has anyone played it? Dessgeega? You did some kind of retrospective on them, but you never mentioned the Dreamcast version. TELL ME HOW IT IS I WANT A ROGUELIKE.

You mean Fushigi Dungeon - Furai no Shiren Gaiden: Onnakenshi Asuka Kenzan? It is a side story to Fushigi no Dungeon 2 Shiren the Wanderer, and plays fairly similarly including the difficulty. I don't recommend playing it at all unless you know Japanese.

Damn. I would imagine that knowing what the items do is fairly important in a roguelike. Come on baby let's go downtown, let's go let's go let's go to frown town.

Nightshade or PS2 Shinobi, which has the most ninja violence?

Aren't they stupid cheap now? You could probably get both for the paltry sum of $10!

Shinobi will kick you in the nuts. Instant Deaths from falls. No checkpoints. Fuck Level 5.

Nightshade will kick you in the teeth. There's a retry counter in Nightshade that shows how much you suck. Though it has checkpoints, unlike Shinobi. I really appreciated that.

It's a tough choice, depends on how you like your ninjas. Man ninja or Lady ninja. Either one will leave you with a shattered controller.

As a warning, Shinobi is not as hard as most people claim it is. Much like Contra: Hard Corps.

Do both portray ninja violence equally? It is very important to know if one is much more ninja violent that the other.

I'm playing Tsukiyo ni saraba
There appears to be two sets of difficulty settings

Hard
Normal

Edit: Figured it out.

A harder difficulty for the one listed on top is unlocked every time the game is beaten.
(Normal->Hard->Very Hard)

The second deals with how experience points are handled.
Normal (skills are locked)
Max (all skills start unlocked)

As far as Ninjas go I'd stick with Xbox Ninja Gaiden or Genesis Shinobi 3. Don't get me wrong, Shinobi PS2 and Nightshade are both pretty good, but neither really feel ninja violent like those other games do. If I had to pick just one I'd probably get Shinobi.

A new question; does Tenchu's more realistic take on ninja violence make it more ninja violent than something more videogamey like Shinobi III?

Tenchu started doing this thing where, when you do a stealth kill, the camera zooms in on the victim's body and does this x-ray effect. It's a bit ridiculous, but I want my ninjas to be ridiculous.

Realistic but not Ninja.

Ninja Gaiden Black is the most awesome representation of Ninjas in games as Ryu totally flips out and cuts off heads all the time. Other than that. The 3D Mortal Kombats have some nice Ninja related violence

Chrono Cross.

I'm about to enter Termina and I named my hero Cecil and that girl Rydia, that depicts in a way what I expect from CC - a bit of diversion, lots of colors and interaction between the characters. The battlesystem is kind of fun and there were two bgms I liked..... now, should I continue?

Is that the best it gets or is the great thing still to happen?

R-Type Final looks very pretty, and yesterday I had the opportunity to buy it for $11 used. Should I go back to the store to pick it up, given that my two favorite shmups are Ikaruga and Gradius V, in that order?

depends on what you'll expect from R-FINAL.
If you want fast-paced action and bullet-hell (Ikaruga), ... you might be disappointed. Where Gradius is the usual shooting game, RTF is an opera.

With atmospheric music, often slow-paced and then suddenly handing you your ass, massive stuff (99 ships and ... stuff) to unlock and being the last R-Type ever ... tt even has a story ... kind of.
Depends on if you can live with a shooting game that has way less action than Ika and Gradius. If so, should be worth 11 bucks, even if it's just for when you get fed up with just shooting things.

Hell, I can't tell you more because I'm too much of a fan to be able to give useful advice.

what you should probably understand is that r-type final is a bad shooter.

it is an excellent mood piece and a fine narrative capstone to the r-type series.

but it's not a very good game.

if you havn't played r-type delta, there's really no reason to play final.

I havnt spent much time with the rest of the series but for what it's worth I love R-Type Final. Ignoring all the story, music, unlockables etc etc I just find it a good/fun game to play, a good way to kill time.

i cleared ai battle mode.

r-type final is valuable mostly for the storytelling and the nostalgia. the game is less tight than any of the other games in the series because they needed to balance it for one hundred different ships.

I am so pissed that I stopped playing that game where I did. I have like 50+ ships unlocked, even had a really great database going on what I had and what I needed to do to get the rest. Lost that of course, and have no idea where to start up again. And I dread having to restart knowing I was so far at one point. Argh!!!!

Is Ibara supposed to take forever to load (like maybe a full minute to load from boot up to title and a pretty damn long time between levels)?

I never really had any problems with the load times. I didn't notice anyone who I have shown it to mention the load times as a problem (well, barring the stupid place of the load times right after the little intro voice segment).

I mean, they are pretty standard load times, not exceptionally long or anything.

So, there was a guy working for Falcom in the late 80's by the name of Yuzo Koshiro. He made music for some nifty computer games like Sorcerian, Xanadu or Ys. Given how all this music was done under contract with Falcom, he didn't get one yen of royalties from OST sales of the games (just standard montly wage).

Now combine this with the fact, that Ys is like, the most best-selling OST evah (seriously, I think they're still reprinting it regularly), it's no wonder that he's gotten a bit wiser and copyrights all his game music done since.

Hey guys I beat Killer7.

Can someone explain to me what's happening during that actual playing of the game?

Like, is Garcian some sort of crazy guy who can use ghost powers? Was it all in his head? I'm having trouble figuring out how "IT WAS HIM ALL ALONG" explains being able to turn invisible and shit. And also other people like Curtis recognizing him as other people. Actually wait, wasn't Curtis supposed to have killed Dan?

Your best bet is to head over to GameFaqs to get the plot analisys as most people here have either a) discussed it to death, or b) too far removed from the last time they thought about it.

Its a bastard child most definitely. Given some extra time, it could have been nice. Still different, but better.

I say only keep it if you're a diehard VR fan, which I am, hence why I still have my copy.
