| Your best bet is to head over to GameFaqs to get the plot analisys as most people here have either a) discussed it to death, or b) too far removed from the last time they thought about it. |

Its a bastard child most definitely. Given some extra time, it could have been nice. Still different, but better.
I say only keep it if you're a diehard VR fan, which I am, hence why I still have my copy. |

basically, see here: http://www.bannister.org/software/emu.htm. get the emulator enhancer too (shareware of the never expires sort), at the bottom of the page, for fullscreen. and see the MAME site for port links. |

Hey, a question about the DS online/writable memory capabilities. Would it be possible to create a game that, using a Wi-Fi connection of some sort, could connect to an official server (perhaps with it's own designated friend code or something?) and download, say, a new level or map or items and then have them semi-permanently in the game (attached to a save or whatever it would need)?
What I'm basically asking is, could a DS game support downloading new content from the developer?
Or is that really only something you could do on a PSP? (when it comes to handhelds, I mean)
Also, uh. This is extremely unlikely, but does anyone know of any sites that might have information about games that have been marked with competitions? You know, like, "Be the first person to find all eight hundred ham sandwiches and win $5000?"
Especially whether that little sales incentive worked or not? |

What is the name of the classical music which plays in the Arcade game Phoenix? It's driving me nuts. I've searched all over the net, and yet NO ONE has ever spoken about the classical music.
I am certain it's taken from somewhere, but I just can't place quite where...
Any help?

The only one of those things I'm aware of was the comically ill-fated contest for the crapfest Advent Rising, where they had to withdraw the MILLION DOLLAR PRIZE because Majesco (the publisher) was out of money.
Now I'm curious if there were any other contests like that! |

| Treasure Master for the NES had this competition where if you could beat the secret level opened up by putting in the game's serial number and a code MTV revealed, you'd get a 24-character secret code and possibly win a prize. More details here. |

I think it's Für Elise. But I'd have to play the game again to be sure. |

Treasure Quest. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the site about all it's controversy (surprisngly, the game doesn't even have a wikipedia entry).
RetroGamer ran a feature about this sort of stuff ages ago, some of the prizes discussed were cash. |

Elemental Gearbolt on the PSOne had a contest during its release for $10,000. It was sponsored by Working Designs, I wonder if they ever paid it out?
You had to find 12 hidden chalices and achieve the highest score among all who played to stand a chance. Man, I loved this game. I still whip out from time to time. My highest score was around 30,000,000, but I never found all the chalices. Since this was a rail shooter you had to memorize the stages and the location of the chalices. You also had to shoot them twice. Once to make them appear and once again to collect. To make it even more confusing they would only show if you shoot them with the correct element (you had 3 guns) and you had to switch to another gun to collect it most of the time. So discovering by accident was tough. EGM published the location of these chalices over 4 issues back in 98. Unfortunately, the contest ended by then, of course.
Another of the prizes was the spectacular Assassin's Case that was given away during a contest at E3 '98.
Oh Alfa System, if only more light gun games followed your lead. |

Unless you plan to do some heavy reading of the (admittedly useful) "Analysis Guide" on GameFAQs, avoid OSA - Psi powers can be a complete bitch and it's hard to judge which ones are a good investment without knowing their strrengths/weaknesses (ie, reading up on them beforehand). So it's more of a "second time through the game" class.
That leaves you with Navy and Marine, and those can kinda be equal in power. Marine is slightly better if you're more concerned with the direct route of smashing heads/shooting things, while Navy tends to give you advantages in terms of resources (since you have an easier time hacking storage containers and item dispensers) and otherwise setting things up in your favor.
You might want to examine the different paths you can take in character creation at the RPGClassics shrine.
I think I went with Navy, and did quite alright, although I can't remember what specific series of training I took (probably +1 Hack/Stregth, +2 Standard Weapons, and Endurance).
Don't forget to take the basketball from the opening area with you (it's on a ledge outside, I believe)! Well, it's not needed - it just enables a funny little easter egg late in the game.
I really wish the coop in System Shock 2 wasn't so half-assed. It would be a great game to go through together with some ICers.
....
You know, I'm kinda surprised no one answered my DS question. Hrmm. Not that it matters, heh. |

It's really hard to imagine why that wouldn't be possible, although it might be pretty limited. I know March of the Minis lets you download new levels, and I kind of assumed that they would be saved to your card. Tony Hawk lets you download new goals and custom artwork for your board from the official server, but the new goals aren't saved - you have to play them while you're connected. |

There was some pirate game for SNES, Cutthroat Island I think the name was, that had a 'mail us the locations of the five hidden treasure chests and win!' contest. Nintendo Power plugged it a bit. |

I know Advent Rising had a contest where you had to get online, where then hidden items would had to be found.
Whatever happened to Advent Rising? It was supposed to be a trilogy or something, right? |

Also, the game bombed because it was a third-person Halo minus Master Chief plus tons more bugs (some of which crashed the system) and a stupid, cliched plot. |

So it goes off sync after a while. Not good.

There was quite a stir that the winner was fake due to some suspicious details about the win (and the winner).
Additionally, a large group of people who banded together and planned to share the winnings thought it was suspicious how this one guy just came out of nowhere and won despite a whole group of intelligent people taking months just to complete single puzzles. |

Basically, there's no mass storage at all on the DS. The largest save type is something like 2Mb, which is next to nothing. You're not going to fit a 3D level on there, but Band Brothers (for example) let's you create custom songs and save them in that space. |

Kuroko's are just stage hands in Kabuki theater. The same type of character also appears in Gouketsuji Legends (Power Instinct).

| Quick question: in current and next gen consoles, is it possible to battle online against other continents? I remember my friend having X-Box Live and only be able to battle against European (but my memory could be wrong). I was just wondering, because the interests in games is clearly diffferent in every continent (I would be able to play good games of Puyo Puyo against Europeans). |

I need some back issues of Edge magazine. In particular, I need issue 162, but I'd like anything from 158-162 since I missed all of those. In fact, I wouldn't mind getting my hands on any issues from the last several years — I only started buying the magazine last year, and it's fucking porn. It's really the only magazine I look forward to buying anymore. I mean, I still pick up an issue of Play on occasion (Heather's article on NiGHTS in the current one is nice, plus the Contact review), but more and more I find myself disappointed with them lately (lately meaning the last few years), what with all the pointless features on bands like Staind. Anyway, yeah, Edge. Still very good and very relevant to the direction of interest in videogames I myself have taken.
So, can anyone help me? I guess Edge doesn't sell its own back issues, so I have to rely on eBay or begging people on videogame forums to send me theirs. I'll pay for shipping, of course, and if you demand to set a price on the actual magazine we'll see what we can agree upon.
Oh, I'd really like to have any of the variations of issue 128 (the 10th birthday issue) or those EQUIP and RETRO special editions. I bet the issues from late '98 are full of pretty pictures, too (seriously, if there's an issue containing any combination of Ocarina of Time, Xenogears, MGS, and Panzer Dragoon Saga, I need it). I'd like to see what they wrote about Ico (#104) and Rez, too, if anyone has those issues. Wishful thinking, I'm sure... |

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon
Dragon Quest Rocket Slime
Harvest Moon DS
I haven't heard anything about Harvest Moon DS, so it makes the choice a bit hard. |

I really am starting to like Pokemon MD. Rocket Slime I have heard is very fun yet very easy. I will be picking it up soon. My wife says that the Harvest Moon DS is good. The story has a lot of potential, and is more humorus that usual. There are a lot of marrage options. The game utilizes both screens and buttons well. Overall a very good adition to the Harvest Moon series.
I would get Pokemon... but that's because I did! |

Dumb question, maybe:
Anyone know where I can get Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne for $50 or less? New and sealed would be nice, but I'll take used if it's in more or less flawless condition (and it'd be nice if it came with the soundtrack).
I have no idea where my copy went (I guess it could have been stolen, but I'm not sure how or when or by whom), and I'm a little upset!
Here's taking a stab in the dark. |
