People who enjoy the music for the Mystical Ninja 64 games (and really, who doesn't? aside from the deaf and the uncultured) might want to check out the USF sets, which allow you to listen to the music in ways that the OSTs never intended! Not to mention you can listen to the one from that wierd Goemon boardgame for the N64, although the set isn't tagged.

now, if only I had a complete rip of the DS Goemon (I don't care if it's all old music....it's still awesome!)

I thought about making a Boss Music thread, but I remembered this one was here.
My favorite boss music is in TMNT 2: The Arcade Game for the NES.
The music during the Rocksteady and Shredder fights are among the best I've ever experienced. They've got the whole idea set. The on-and-off bassline, a short running part, and the "This is a Fucking Boss Fight" (semi-)melody/riff that gets you in an aware state of kicking ass. |

oh man, I could go on and on about boss themes forever. I've got a ton of favorites even in just the category of "generic boss battle theme".
On the subject of "fap"....isn't it about time we found some new onomatopoeia for male masturbation of the phallical member? I know Sexy Losers or whatever made it popular, but it's about time it changed into something else.....like, say, "shlorp".... or maybe "vipp". Not that I'm an expert when it comes to masturbation noises or anything.
On the subject of fighting game characters named Annie - that Annie is cute, and cats is always +500 points, but the Annie from Power Instict had a btter stange theme (although "Beat Out" is still pretty neat). Come to think of it, Toshikazu Tanaka composed for both games (I think).
Of course, in Matrimelee she got the stage with the song about french fries... |

In reply to the fapping: I've already devised a solution to the problem. KEEP IT TO THE GAME GIRL MASTURBATION TOPIC. It's not my fault that certain people don't want to keep it to that topic.
Now to add something to this topic, I thought the music in the first Kirby game was awesome. |

Uh. It is your fault, because you were the one who brought it up and mentioned it.
Anyway.
Has the Katamarii 2 OST been released yet? I downloaded the collection that was just recorded from the game, but it wasn't very good quality, and the labels were all kinds of fucked up.

Prior to the guy who accused me of masturbating to a Zelda soundtrack CD, I didn't mention anything of masturbation in this thread. He's the one who brought that shit here.
And so what if I brought it up and mentioned it? That was the other topic. I didn't bring it up here. It isn't my fault that fapping has now infected this topic.
Now I have to contribute something to this topic, dammit. I have that guitar arrange F-Zero X AST. It's not a real CD, though. It's a burn. Awesome CD, though. |

A nice source for most likely not legal in the least but mostly out-of-print music is http://www.segaxtreme.net/Music/ (and the little brother, http://www.tendoweb.com/Music/). I haven't yet taken the time to comb through the first, so I can only suggest a few:
Sega CD: Ecco the Dolphin, Lords of Thunder, Sonic CD, and above all The Terminator
Dreamcast: Skies of Arcadia, Sonic Adventure, Virtua Tennis (unexpected rock!)
Sega Genesis: Castlevania Bloodlines, Gunstar Heroes, Phantasy Star 4, Shining Force 2, Sonic the Hedgehog games, and of course Streets of Rage
Sega Saturn: Alberty Odyssey, Astal, Dark Savior (acquired taste), Guardian Heroes, Langrisser 3, Mr Bones, Nights into Dreams, the Panzer Dragono games (especially the first), Shining the Holy Ark
there's more, obviously, but I really need to take a day to look through it all sometime and pick out the music from the noise.
(note that some things are rips, while others are OSTs. And some are rips where they should be OSTs, like Castlevania Bloodlines :\)
EDIT: Yeah, the Katamari 2 OST is definitely out:
http://www.gmronline.com/info.asp?CatNumber=COCX-33273
If one were the type to sail the high seas, I would suggest they check out the website for a certain #gamemp3s... |

yes, tons.
go to the page for a game,
then click the link to an mp3
allow the next html page to load
then click the real link to an mp3
then let it download it.
the way I do it so it's not totally hideously painful to download is to open each track into a new tab, then click each link in each tab in succession, and then wait as they each download one at a time before closing each tab. |

This is pretty much the best resource for Contra music, but it doesn't have many tracks from Neo Contra. I'll check the DC++ hub I used to frequent.
EDIT: I found someone who has a rip of it, although they're frankly too slow for me to spend time downloading from 'em. If you want, I can tell you what he hub is.
Curiously, they had a text file with the following in the directory:
If you own the game, it would be much better if you ripped the tracks yourself with Vb2rip 1.4 (which I'll put in my share), since it would be MUCH higher quality. Anyway, enjoy!
so, if you own the game yourself... |

you're right there, a friend of mine didn't notice the character-songs until i showed him that there are profiles of the pilots as well.
I like the aeropolis-track very much, as well as the setting ... it's how racing into big cities should be. Not like that crappy F1-thing in Las Vegas.
btw, you might want to check out the GT4 soundtrack/Daiki Kasho as well, since Daiki did some of the GT4-songs as well as some GT3-tracks. |

Whoa. Missed this topic the first time around, and now this topic sorta relates to that other remix soundtrack topic. Anyways, good soundtracks that haven't really been mentioned yet.
Gitaroo Man - I know it was mentioned in passing in a quote supplied by Rudie, but it deserves a full mention. As said in the quote, the "Legendary Theme" is just beautiful, and I've been struggling so far to transcribe it to my copy of Daigasso! Band Brothers. It just makes me feel so good, reminding me of my first time playing that stage. Mmm.
Jet Set Radio (+ Future) - Also was mentioned in a quote, and deserving of a full mention. I just like the funky music, yes?
Once I get some money, I'll have to purchase the new We Love Katamari soundtrack, and perhaps one of the old Gradius soundtrack sets... |

Best Soundtracks, IMHO
Panzer Dragoon
Secret of Mana (Try to get the Original; the remix album is long and weird).
Katamari Damacy
FFIX (Nobuo Uemetsu at his best. Last game he did alone, too).
ECCO S:CD
NiGHTs
Kingdom Hearts actually has some great tracks, too. |

Castlevania AoS
Dracula X
Metal Gear Solid
Outcast
Plok
Seiken Densetsu 3
Gradius IV
King Of Fighters '98 and 2K
The Nomad Soul
Final Fantasy VI
Silver
Chrono Trigger
Chrono Cross
Secret Of Mana
Marathon 2: Durandal (Main and only theme)
BS F-Zero 2
I'm sure I'm forgetting one or two, but those're great! |

Only if you count Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin as co-composer to Hanjuku Hero vs. 3D
it's amazingly good music, too - pretty much ever track is excellent, from the rousing heroism of "Jet Black Hatred", to the wonderfully 8-bit influence "Battle in a Distant Land", to the oddly beautiful "Without Yolk". to "Thrilling Strings" which might as well have been in Paper Mario, to the chilling noise-music of "Unknown World", to "44 Rock" which defies description. There's even an ondo!
I should upload it to YSI for anyone who hasn't heard it - it's really a great album, and the PSF2 set doesn't give it justice.
Hanjuku Hero 4 sadly doesn't have as much Uematsu contributions to it (although it apparently reuses every track from HHvs3D), but it has some neat tracks by Kenji Ito and others. The game also includes more remixes of classic Final Fantasy themes - "Western Pandemon" is a spaghetti western take on the Castle Pandemonium theme, while "Xylophone Mist Dungeon" is a cheery remix of the FFIV dungeon theme. And then there's "We Are The World", which is....well, you have to hear it. |

Your on the internet, you are posting on an internet message board. It's to be assume it's your opinion. I see it mostly used as a counter to someone attacking another's opinion. "It's just my opinion OK?" On this board it's no good. If one has an opinion, they should just as easily be able to back it up.

Hate to ressurect a year-old thread, but I just started listening to the PSF set for Black/Matrix 00, and I was blown away. This is some of the strangest and most unpredictable music I've heard from a video game. I'm sure there are some scores out there that trump it in terms of randomness and sheer bizarre variety, but this is just...wow. You gotta hear it, man!
Some tracks of special notice:
-Fearless Ring Master (evil surf guitar)
-Four Winged Archangel (what the hell?)
-The Ultimate Escapist (I dare you to not tap your feet to this)
-God is a D.J. (er..)
-Cursed Bloodlines (more RPGs need badguy themes like this)
-Mental Vitamin (crazy)
-Rage Against Destiny (it's an SMT: Nocturne battle theme! well, not really)
-Violent White (reminds me of a Konami shooter for some reason)
-Theme of Kain (pretty)
-Flame Joker (a Breath of Fire IV battle theme on acid)
-Vicious Plot ("Rex' Lair" from MGS, also on acid)
It gets a bit calmer and more thoughtful later in the set, but it's still quite unique.
Download the set here. (11mb rar)
The only real downside is that it's not timed to loop twice...oh well, that can be fixed... |

P.N. 03 had a good soundtrack, but the game never got a proper OST release. There's only dead torrent links out there of a perfect Gamecube rip. I would be very greatful to anyone who would be willing to send it to my gmail. Someone from the last forums had it, but then God ate the forums, again. Which begs the question:
What do forums taste like? |
