Somehow your words make this game seem oddly compelling despite only really discovering the enjoyment value of soccer during this World Cup. That's not good. I have enough games of interest to buy right now.

I was stuck too but I figured out I had to go back to the graveyard after getting the second key. The next level sounds fun, it's set in an asylum of a hospital or something, I've forgotten.

Zombie Zone really needs controls that are better. Though they work movement can be slightly off at times.

I played Raidiant Silvergun for the first time on my new (to me) Saturn.

I own Ikaruga on GC, but after only about an hour of play, I think I may like RS better. It tastes meaty.

Also, I think I may not eternally suck at this one.

I had a feeling you might post.

I'd say it seems to have the epic soundtrack, but might be missing the "pseudo-orgasmic missile release".

point blank ds is really nice.

it's a lot like if warioware touched were built entirely around tapping games. and the recreations of actual namco shooting gallery games - like cosmo gang - are a very nice bonus.

Its a selection of games from the different originals, not all of them combined. Correct?

I've been thinking of picking this up myself! Does it have multiplayer over wifi though or is it only local games? Because that would suck! Still, I'll probably get it anyway because I love Point Blank.

So I just finished Mighty Final Fight while in the toilet, in my GB Micro, for the first time ever. See, I have this game, got it way back then for the NES, and played it lots with my cousins; even though the game's not hard at all, we sucked and never finished it. But now I started playing it again (through the magic of PocketNES) and did!

It's a pretty awesome game.

nope, sadly it only has wireless two-player play, but it's still pretty great. if you like point blank you'll probably like the ds game.

Yesterday I played and finished INVADER, mainly due to peer pressure from dess and mr mech.

It bugs me that the game would be so much easier if the chick could just shoot up right at the start, but it's pretty clever how vertical shots act as a way of level select after you finish the game. I also wish there was a hard mode that gives you a limited number of lives, or a time attack mode!

I also had to stop playing at one point, after I spent ages going through this one part only to discover I had gone in a circle >:O

But yeah, it's a pretty swell and fun game! It's certainly well designed and makes clever and good use of it's mechanics which is a key to a good game in my mind. And it ends just before it would run out of ideas! It remains fresh through the entire game.

And when I found out enemies could destroy blocks, it was a very "ah HA!" moment!

The final battle was also a stroke of genius! The lead up to it, too!

The music sucks something hardcore though!

jk toups, it's swell.

The only bad thing about Psychonauts is that goddamn 800 Arrowhead pricetag on the Cobweb Duster. Pricing it at 400 would have gotten the "you need to work at it" message across just fine, without being fucking tedious. Everything else is aces, though, especially Lungfish. Stomping buildings is fun!

last night i scored more than 110 million points in the NES version of bomberman. at level 38 with 37 extra lives, or something, i turned it off.

i really liked it when i was a lil kid, but it sure hasn't aged well. it never gets very challenging, and once you have all the power-ups (walk through walls, walk through bombs, be invincible to your own bombs) it becomes super easy and you can use an exploit to rack up ridiculous points at the end of every level (when you've cleared the level, instead of going through the door, just stand in front of it & set off bombs nonstop to generate more monsters and kill them instantly for big combos -- just make sure to go through the door before the clock runs out).

I beat all of the main game of Sonic Rush.

I first played all the way through as Sonic. I'd shut off the system generally when I got frustrated with the difficulty. Then later playing again, and getting through.

I then played through as Blaze, and shut it off whenever I got sick of the bosses (the stages I knew well enough how to navigate).

Then Extra Zone I played once (died once). It was kinda cool, but not really enjoyable. More of a pain to play than the normal boss levels, but still more enjoyable then them.

I'm glad I don't have to play that game ever again.

Yeah, I went back to playing this game after finishing Skies of Arcadia, and I'm about 15 hours in. It's great fun, and pays perfect homage to the Mario universe without coming off as dumb or patronizing. After I finish it I think I'll go pick up Partners in Time, which looks even better.

By the way, apparently you can play as Luigi in NSMB by going to the file select screen, holding L+R, and pressing A. I haven't tried it yet so I don't know if there's any difference to his control style (probably not), but, well.

[quote="antitype"]Please elaborate.[quote]
The game is a huge waste of potential, and feels unfinished. Despite being a game about time travel, you never leave the castle in the present, which itself acts as nothing more than a glorified level hub to the different dungeons in the past. Combat consists of using Bros. Items (which replace the abilities of the first game) over and over and over again. Baby Mario & Luigi are just extra sets of combat statistics and play mechanics for maneuvering around the game world. There is no interplay between the past and the present outside of one or two moments in which the player doesn't have control, anyway. At one point the game gives you two of the six pieces of the macguffin out of the blue, when it had previously given you one per dungeon, which seems to me a pretty clear indication that the development team rushed the game to market, or got lazy. Etc.

The writing and animation are as good as the original's, though!

Completely seconded. After playing Superstar Saga, Partners in Time feels like a prison -- I can't emphasize enough the negative impact of the essentially hub-based structure of the game and the sense of dungeon crawl after dungeon crawl. The combat is more irritating than Superstar Saga despite its action-oriented play, and although there are charming events and ideas, the lack of freedom squelches the enjoyment you experienced from that character in the GBA game.

Its hard to figure out what to do in Shinobido Takumi, when killing all the badguys isn't the answer I don't know what is.Well worth the ten dollars: the ninja character is really fun.

I also played some Rush'n attack on Konami Arcade advanced (which I just bought today).

Played Rockstar's Table Tennis game for the 360 over at a friend's last night. It's a bit like Virtua Tennis, actually, but with a slightly steeper learning curve and quite a bit more intense, when your Focus levels get higher and the game speeds up. It feels extremely tight, too.

Started a game of deepblue's copy of Earthbound he was nice enough to sell to me and I was quite charmed by it. So far I've got the Onett town map, have only traveled as far as the library, have played through what I assume to be most of the introduction, and I'm quite taken by what a unique, cute little game this is. I like the psychedelic battle screens, and how weird some of these characters come off as.

A few years ago I asked a friend if he had played Earthbound, and he said he had but he didn't like it because the graphics were too simple. I don't what he was on at the time because I think they've got a lot of personality to them. Well, actually the whole game has a lot of personality to it. That's pretty much the only thing that intrigues me about the game and makes me want to keep playing it.

Also I really like the music so far.

Hard drugs?

Also, I'm almost on my way to Twoson by now, I can tell. This is really good! I like that it's exactly like Dragon Quest, just that the settings and contexts are different. Christmas presents instead of treasure chests, the level up structuring where you get beat up if you try to overextend your reach in the game (except in this case your reach is defined by how far along you are in the story and not your physical location on the game map, at least not yet), hamburgers instead of health potions, etc. All that's different about the overall structure of the game is the story, and what a difference that can make!

Cycle mentioned last night that the game increases the weirdness of the story as you go along and I can tell that's what's going to happen. The beginning is almost so normal, little boy, small town, street punks taking over the arcade. Then it's a meteorite landing and talking bees and magic butterflies and it slowly starts to escalate. I wish there were more RPG games that took the formula and drafted interesting, charming, original stories and ideas onto them. I never realized how tired I was of the typical fantasy schlock in games until I played this one for a few hours straight. What a difference a change in setting can do.

I'm really hoping that rumor about Mother 1-3 collection for DS is true now.

about halfway through twoson the game gets pretty easy on you for a long time so you don't even have to worry about dying for a major stretch of the game. i personally like to talk to all the townspeople since I KNOW they aren't going to give me any useful information but will just say funny stuff.

Yeah, Earthbound feels so different from DQ, yet it's such a small change. Imagine this applied to more games in general, not just RPG's...

Yesterday was a very rhythm game heavy day. I started off by going to a Best Buy, and finding that Guitar Hero was set up for display. So I played a few rounds of that, even taking requests from the passers-by. My wrists started to hurt after playing Cowboys from Hell, so I had to give that up.

Next up was an arcade that I was curious about, so I scoped it out and found that it had one of those new-fangled DDR SuperNOVA machines. I was mildly unimpressed with it. The interface was annoying to use, a number of features were cut out, and the majority of new songs were trash. There was a regular old Extreme machine nearby, so I played a round for comparison and found it to be a much better experience overall.

Finally, as I mentioned in the Look What I Just Got, Thread, I picked up beatmania for PS2 from Target for $40. I played through a good deal of the early songs, and it left me with a burning desire to find a decent IIDX arcade machine nearby.

I'm a little shocked at how easy King Kong is. I picked up the Xbox version for $15 at Toys R Us (huge clearance sale going on!) two days ago, and I think I'm pretty much nearing the end... after about five hours of playing. The length doesn't bother me, it's the fact that I'm not really feeling like I'm playing anything.

This may as well be the King Kong ride at Universal Studios in Florida.

Also, I picked up Taiko Drum Master for $20 (again, Toys R Us!). Great game. Not too sure about how responsive the drum is. Or maybe I'm just not hitting it hard enough. Hitting the edge has proven to be a little frustrating, though.

Needs more classical songs.

More CoD2. Beat the final mission, watched the kick-ass credit sequence (gets my vote for one of the best ever).

The final mission felt...insufficient. Yeah it was long, action packed, somewhat varied (in the beginning at least), but there wasn't nearly as much spectacle and fanfare as you would expect, given every mission before it. The second mission of the entire game had more impact IMO.

My local Best Buy also has it set up, with stupid speaker-in-chair things plugged in, and no memory card. I guess they turn it off every night to save power or something, because only the easiest songs are ever unlocked.

I make it a point to enter the Unlock All code every time I go there. Texas Flood will sell more units than Infected.

I'm pretty sure you're wrong. Tony Hawk 3 is where the game "make combos last forever" shit got really out of hand.
