I don’t think that’s the way you’re going to play FIFA. I don’t think it’s the way you’re going to play Madden. I don’t think it’s the way you’re going to play racing games.

He's got a point there.

But you guys didn't really expect the head honcho to give the competition credit, this close to system launch, did you?

More Mother 3 stuff.

Basically, Itoi, some people from NOJ, Brownie Brown and HAL submitted a patent for an RPG

If you follow this link, then put A in Box 1 followed by 2004-321362 and press the bottom left button, it takes you to the patent. Has some interesting pictures, one of which is a gamecube. Also, it talks about a battle system that rewards BGM-based button presses, which was originally planned for the N64DD version.

I mean, my frothing increased.

Also I followed a starmen.net post to Brownie Brown's website and looked at their staff pictures. I trust that their DS devkits and seemingly genial atmosphere means that it'll be a good game.

No, but I didn't expect him to say anything that stupid either.

Hold the fucking controller horizontally and TURN IT LIKE A GODDAMN STEERING WHEEL. Don't just jut your hands out into the air like a Cyborg, either. Relax your forearms, place them on your thighs, and turn the controller sideways and gently move the thing like you would a steering wheel.

Move the footie guy with the D-Pad, kick by flicking the stick in the direction you want it to go.

I don't know how to play Madden in the first place, so I'll let EA figure that out.

And that Itoi shit is AWESOME.
So who pays for it this time? We can either ask the gamer to pay for it, pay for it ourselves, or prove that there’s enough value in it and have the gamer say ‘I want to pay for it’ – I think that’s the right model.
I like this bit. No J you are making the consumer pay for it, and you are also continually stressing how unneccesary it is. I don't want to pay for the fucking thing but if I were to get a 360 I would have to.

Also FFXI needs the HD.

That sounds unlikely. One thing to consider is the title -- which is curious, as it's a combination of the Japanese and American titles in a way that's not too different from the original Japanese title: Akumajou Dracula. The "Akumajou" in this case, the demon castle, can easily be translated as Castlevania -- since that is the specific demon castle in question. Invert the two, as per Japanese naming schemes, and -- well.

It probably means nothing, and is just a placeholder name. Still, going by it alone the implication at least is of another revisitation to the original Castlevania. It's already been remade or re-envisioned at least four times (if you include the NES version, which is actually a reconception of the MSX original -- although it has effectively become the "canon" one). Igashi ported one of the more obscure remakes to the PSOne not long ago, with an updated, Kojimized version of Simon. He has not yet, however, completely remade the game in his own way. Which, you know, he might as well. It's almost a tradition at this point. I'd be curious to see his take. Two possibilities: either my earlier plan to combine the first two games (the original and Simon's Quest) into a single narrative, or a more exploration-based reconception of the original, which would actually bring it way back to the MSX version (something most people aren't aware of).

What it more likely is is another game set in Soma's rough time period. Maybe that Dracula 1999 game. The reason I say this is that he said in a recent interview that he intends to keep the timeframe for the handheld and console games separate from now on, with the console games set in the past and the handheld games set in the "future" (1999 being close enough to the future, I guess).

(Hey, Toups. Rainbow Island DS)

Does anyone know what the following are?

Ash (MistWalker)
Kaitou Wario (Nintendo)
Wishroom (Nintendo)
Detect Hacker (Nintendo)
Densetsu no Stafi 4 (Nintendo)
Puzzle Up DS (Nintendo)
Dangerous Jisan (Konami)
Sudokou (Nintendo)

So the one's by MistWalker. All right. We can guess what's up with that. The rest, though... Detect Hacker, by Nintendo? Wishroom?

Wario's a new entry in the platforming series. Upper screen is used as a map. Not much else is known. Should turn out fine if Warioland 4 is any indication.

Detect Hacker looks like a digicomic.

Densetsu no Stafi 4. Um... well it's the next Stafi. GBA platformer series that never got out of Japan. Never played it myself but it seems appreciated, the cute starfish main character probably has something to do with that.

The rest doesn't ring a bell.
And Ash stands for Archaic Sealed Heat. It's a simulationRPG (T-RPG) directed by Sakaguchi with Hideo Minaba as visual designer and Hitoshi Sakimoto as composer.

I want to know why he doesn't like Lyle Lovett. I might mess up the quote but:

If I had a boat, I'd go out on the ocean
And If I had a Pony, I'd ride it on my boat

That's great! And The Simpsons probably agree.

And...holy fucking creepy full circle, Batman. I just learned, thanks to the article, that Wario has a cameo - in Legend of Stafi 3 (ie, the game that Officier Monocle is from).

My big fear is that everyone who's been going nuts for the game, i.e. the message board hardcore masses, already got the game via import for the super premium pack with stylus, comic book, and soundtrack, and cutting away potential US sales.

A new RPG is coming to DS - Spaghetti Western flavored!

You know, in the Wild ARMS "hmmm" sense. The currency is Pesos!

No developer info, but it looks very much like a (relatively) amateur American or European production, so it should be interesting to see if it can keep it's head above water.

Let's do a little research....

http://diygames.com/index.php?p=729&c=1
http://www.blossomsoft.com/
http://www.westernlords.com/main.php?lang=en&page=news

Western Lords, previously planned on the Game Boy Advance, is now going to be developed on the Nintendo DS. Our game will take you on a captivating quest set in an Aztec/Incan/Mayan environment mixed with Far-west elements. Overflowed with action, exploration, highly additive battle system using projectiles, stunning animated characters, striking "manga" illustration, mesmerizing music and a deep intricate plot, our RPG will awake an immense ecstatic feeling inside you for sure!

I called it! Whoa....producer and writer in Canada, composer in France, 2D animator in Belgium, art designer in California, 2D graphics designer in Australia...I'm surprised they even got this far! But it looks like they just might make it, unlike some of the sad stories of the GBA era...

Music sounds nice so far, but I'd like to hear some battle themes...and see some proof of concept when it comes to the battle system...
