So, yeah, it sounds like the Xbox 360 version would remove all that is compelling about the experience.

I put forth that this is probably a good thing.

You told me you'd build a Gundam!

The Japanese pay money to simulate failure? Now that's worthy some psychoanalysis.

Are there any pictures of her? I want to see what the face of a failed idol looks like.

Hi, all!

Yeah, this game is pretty much the end of humanity! We stare into its gaping maw, the veil flutters away in charred tatters, and all around us is a sharp, cold filth that drags our still-howling corpses off toward existential oblivion!

Good fun, though. LOLLERS!

A couple things -- lively discussion on this topic starts here -- but continues here I guess, and a very special video supplement/music video (?) over this-a-way.

Savor the void!

EDIT: What a failed idol looks like.

yeah, i thought brandon would put your article up first so i could put me and brendan's namco-brand-escapism-bashing articles up simultaneously ;_;

kumar send your article to me and i'll put it up within the next six hours (will leave it to brandon to frontpage though, of course)

Yes, but you -- and by you I mean people -- already compete against g0kug0su69 and h3ug{0x for, say, a fictional pair of enchanted spats that only drops 1/300 times. For instance.

Is this worse?

I can't!

Aderack is the one who HTMLed it and Brandon was supposed to do the images. Then he gave it to Vince, who clearly hasn't bothered his arse.

It's officially now fucking me off as it's been languishing for over 6 months. So, in conclusion: Ask Vince?

As it stands, the current plan is that Tim will put it up and not link it, then Brandon will come back and link it with the wrong link, then he'll come back and change the link so it's correct after it's already scrolled down and disappeared from the front page.

Does that sound okay to you?

How about you ask Vince to ask me if there's anything I can do to help?

In the future, just send your articles to me, as I have fast fingers and don't do anything, usually, with this computer. I just sit here and wish I was at home playing the guitar.

I loved this article. It's the best IC content I've read in months (other than the Axe).

I find games like this—as I do all really extreme geek culture—both fascinating and terrifying at the same time. After reading this feature, I want to play the game, really get into it—even give out my cell phone number to receive emails—and then after a few months of this horrific activity, give up on it completely and rejoin society.

But I guess this article kind of does that already, doesn't it? Anyway, I'm not making sense. More like this, please!

Much appreciated.

Yeah -- there's that whole "rejoin society" bit. I'm not even kidding...I just kind of had to look at the situation, and go "OK. No more Idol M@ster." While I can still remember how to have sex.

I could probably go for a game or two right now.

subscribing

brendan I really enjoyed your article, especially the way you build up the entire "Last Concert" thing.
Man I'm glad I don't have any money and not living in Japan, else this game would just eat it all up.

And why didn't you put the idol card image you posted above in the article, because it really got me wondering what one of those looks like (yeah ok, I just noticed some in the big header but they aren't very clear).

So from what I gathered in the article, this thread and the one in real bout this game will be pointless on the 360. From what I've seen I'd rather play it in an arcade and be shamelessly robbed while taking pleasure in it.

I agree, it is a good article. I should have said that already. Fun. I don't like the "I was having some midrange Mexican near Omotesando..." Section, I would have cut it. It's just too Tim Rogers.

That's the only bit I consider a bit wobbly.

Well done!

If the site had a decent backend for doing things like writing articles (and converting them to HTML easily) and controlling what gets published and not, this wouldn't be a problem. You'd never have to touch the FTP again!

I'm just saying is all.

Agreeing with the others who said they really enjoyed this, knowing nothing about the game, just as a sort of general-interest article.

It's not even so much the combination of appeal and geeky pathos. It's more that I love when people can get into discussing the specific emotional details of experiences--even (especially) cheesy and socially marginal ones like this--an d it's something I get too rarely out of real-life conversations. Reminds me of one of my great real world IC-ish experiences: a really good friend got back from a long trip, and we went for dinner (Mexican, coincidentally?), and immediately got into a critically detailed conversation about whether Chrono Trigger or FF6 was better. We tacitly knew exactly how (un)seriously we were taking it, and at the same time we both really got into it, and it was great.
