I just got a bunch of confused looks. I don't blame them. I don't even know what they made for the Marty.Did they make anything for the Marty?

Wasn't the Marty mainly a dump for major Western computer releases? I know it got Ultima Underworld 1 & 2 (as well as UIV-VI, and the Marty version of VI was a CD game with speech!), as well as King's Quest and stuff.

Great write-up. Being as an introvert, it's occasionally interesting to see a more "public" take on gaming fandom.

My favorite part:

The pizza was up at the front of the line, so the people up front eventually saw everybody to come up for food. One guy who came up for pizza made the mistake of wearing a shirt stamped with three very dangerous brand names:

GAMESTOP
XBOX LIVE
And last but not least; the videogame cultural divide itself:
HALO 2

Now personally, I wouldn't wear a Gamestop/Halo 2/XBL t-shirt. Not just to the Nintendo store; I wouldn't wear it anywhere. Gamestop's a shit store, Halo 2's an incomplete release of a mediocre game, and XBL was really great, but is looking pretty ominous this coming generation. The difference between me and the guys on the line is that I have enough perspective not to take the shirts that people wear as declarations of holy war. As soon as they caught sight of him, a bunch of guys on the line started to boo, hiss, scream at, and generally harass the guy. He called them ignorant or closed-minded or something; a fair enough assumption. The thing I remember best was this, screamed several times by a very angry (but faking smug) man at the top of his lungs:

"YOU KNOW WHAT'S REALLY GREAT ABOUT THE XBOX?
ITS FIRST-PARTY SUPPORT!"

Good work, dude. Have a web site use this as a full-fledged article, rather than just posting it here where it's likely to be missed by most 'net surfers.

Here is a HTML version:
http://luminance.org/f/miyamoto.html
I didn't make a header since it's not my story, but I figured I could be a pal and do a little search & replace!

Edit: Argh. Going to have to tweak that a bit.
Edit2: There. Should be all set.

I'm Sub and I approve of this header. I actually had all this shit HTMLed for my LJ, but I went back and changed the tags to phpbb for posting here. And now I don't have a saved copy of the HTML version. But now we have an HTML version (thank you kind sir) so things are a-ok!

I wish my shots of the line had come out well, but it was dark and my camera ain't too great. The only shots that came out well were pictures of the pizza trays.

Really great story. Sounds like it was a lot of fun, despite any frustration that accompanies that kind of thing.

I almost tried to go to that day (Sunday morning), but decided against it at the last minute. Seems like I would have ended up disappointed had I gone in so late anyway.

Shit, the html version took longer to convert to an IC article than the phpBB version probably would have. Hell. Well, I did it, anyway.

I won't put it on the frontpage, however, until you, Sub, tell me your full name. Do it!

Oh my god... Is Insert Credit... Back???

Bursting back onto the scene with a brilliant new article? That should clearly be linked to by bloggers across the land?

I have signed up the forums again out of sheer tribute. I will probably never ever finsh any of the articles I keep meaning to write out of IC, out of... Something or other.

ALSO REDLIGHTNING YOU LIVE IN TORONTO AND STILL OWE ME MONEY YOU CUNT. (You also appear not to have signed up for the forums again.)

If this is true I now need an FM Towns Marty so bad it is INSANE. Does anyone have a link to a really good FM Towns fan site or something? That assembler one doesn't really cut it.

Excellent write-up.

Hmmm, I wish I had anything more revelant to say about this, but that's the only thing that comes to mind, so... Oh yeah, great spontaneous addition to the site, Tim. I kinda got confused by the related newspost at first, but after reading the article, it makes complete sense.

Thanks, Tim. This article's kind of a braindump; I wrote it out of order as I remembered things and then sorted the paragraphs in the order the events actually happened. Then I looked it over pretty briefly and tossed it up onto my lj and over here. It seems to have come out well except for the part where two paragraphs in a row start with "anyway". It bothers me.

I'm really glad you guys like it, though!

Excellent article, really sums up what it was like being there.

As for that group of arguing fanboys, I have three videos (2-5 mins) of them that I can post if theres any interest. Some dead space in them, but also a few insane ramblings that perfectly sum up that console war in real life situation that Sub described.

My God, it's almost exactly the same thing I went through when I waited in line to meet Hideo Kojima. The comradderie that develops amongst the linewaiters is something that is truly mythical.. it's like going to war together. The experience is truly something memorable.

Miyamoto's signature reminds me of the Bloodrayne logo.

and the sequel was composed by Tenpei Sato of Nippon Ichi fame, who is goddamn freaky!

Appropriately enough, the Bible Master series was apparently Glodia's first two SRPGs (although I guess they only made three?)

whoa, found Bible Master - it actually looks pretty fucking sweet! Too bad about all these PC-x8 and Marty RPGs and SRPGs we'll never play..

anyway, back to the topic
