I was thinking this sounds pretty cool, but then I got to rule 8 and was very disappointed, but then I got to rule 9, so it's all cool again.

I've already started. You can too! It helps that university does not quite start until next week monday. Yay.

Update on FFV - Attempting to stay alive during the first boss encounter of X-death, just before he merges both worlds. It seems around 1/2 his max HP he starts pulling out double attacks on individuals of physical and magical tastes. Not to mention his penchant for Dispelling a random character seemingly each time he gets hit.

In better news, I have actually mastered a couple classes. In my first time playing this game, it was nearly the end before those stars popped over the heads of character's classes.

Also, I might just hold off on Gunstar Super Heroes until I make sure I don't have to break anymore rules. I might not be able to pull off #3 (Co-op play) unless I find someone willing to play a SNES game emulated. I have to get my university contacts and find that certain someone who I met last year and is game-savvy.

The fact that I often listen to iconic late 80s, early 90s music while playing games has made the rules rather pointless. Awesomely so I might even say.

I may join in, let me ponder it.

I need this motivation like another hole in the head...that is to say, I wish I COULD complete something.

I'm almost done with Ocarina of Time...Had a vacation that I tried to conquer it during...I'm heading to the last dungeon.

I'm a little over a third done with a playthrough of SRT: Original Generation. It's just....so long.

I really wanna finish my copy of Thousand Arms. i like it, but...the COMBAT!!11!!! ugh.

I need to beat/start Trauma Center, too. It's sitting on my shelf unopened. I was waiting to beat

Pheonix Wright. Good incentive.

Too bad I too have school and work and wife and life...gar!

FFV is drawing to a close. I need to hunt down a few more of the summons, make an attempt to get Stingray's Blue Magic, gather the remaining legendary weapons and go on my way into the X-Zone/N-Zone. I might just grind for some time to master a few more classes, then coin-chuck X-death to...death.

I'm getting back late tonight from being over at my fiancee's parent's house so I won't get to play WindWaker like I had intended to. It's ok because I'll have all of tomorrow. I hope to have it pretty much completed by the end of Sunday so we'll see.

A recent development might determine 1 or 2 games that I play through. I was at an Art Museum yard sale type of event early this morning where they sell all sorts of artwork and upscale furniture, etc donated from wealthy families and I picked up a brand new Phillips CD-I. Yes, I said Phillips CD-I, at an art sale, BRAND....................NEW. I opened it out of the box myself. (I also only paid 10 dollars for it). Weird wealthy people.

Anyway, I'll be ordering the MPEG-1 decoder video card expansion and a controller soon and play lots o' burned cd-i games. I might have to add Wand of Gamelon to my list to beat, ha ha.

Man, this is great, as I have tons of games lingering around that I have not beat. Mostly:
Phantasy Star 1 and 2:on the gba version, so I don't know if that technically counts for the retro thing.
Tony Hawk's Underground: After I created my hot commie skaterboy and skated around with him for a bit, I didn't feel that motivated to complete the idiotic story.
Golden Sun:actually, I don't know if I even want to pick this up, but I am near the end of it.
Shadow of the Colossus: got to the third colossus on my friend's ps2 before he returned it, though I really want to finish it.
Red Dead Revolver: I also really want to finish this, but I have a deathly fear of the stealth level that lies in wait for me.
I am sure there are more, but that's just to start with.

I don't know of any co-op games that I want to beat, as I don't really have too many gamer friends.Maybe one of the contras?

I am now just before the last boss battle in FV. I'm not powerful enough to kill him. :/

To do him in would require me to grind the 999 ending jobs of Red Mage and possibly Mimic. Which is odd, considering all the boss battles from the beginning of the Chaos Zone leading up to him were cake (aside from Omega and Shinryuu which I don't plan on completing).

But whatever, I took the time to grind for an hour or so and now the game is COMPLETE!

Week 1 - Final Fantasy V
- Rule 4 is initially complete (SNES/Genesis era)
- Rule 7 is quarterly complete (1 system)
- Rule 8 is complete (JRPG)

On to Week 2: Trauma Center! Debating to start where I left off or just take it from the top...

Have some games around that are easy to beat. I'm going to do a quick run through Gyruss later today because I won't be able to finish WindWaker. I'll accomplish that next week ^_^

My first win!!

Yes!!

I'm still working on Windwaker so I thought I would go ahead and take an easier one. Windwaker will be my win for next week.

On to the pics!

Gyruss was my game of choice. For those that don't know what Gyruss is (and I assume most of you do) it's a unique shooter that allows you to spin in a circle around the outer edges of the TV. The game starts off relatively easy, but quickly becomes extremely difficult. It was originally an Arcade game but was ported to the NES.

Here is stage 15. I'm roughly half way through the game at this point.

Stage 29. Getting close!

I'M GOING TO FIGHT THE SUN. YEAH. At this point, Action Jack! switched over to taking pics for me as I streamed through the rest of the game.

This boss is BULLSHIT. All of the little eyes come at you from the side so that you don't have a chance to escape. Eventually the eye shoots out lazer beams at you as well.

Aww, yeah. Here's my Victory Pose! And once again, I've returned the universe to peace.

Well, on to Wind Waker for the rest of the night!

My stats so far:

1out of 15 Games Beaten
1 of 4 Systems Played on
1 SNES/Sega Genesis Era game or before beaten.

:Envy:

For the first time in a long while, my DS has a different cartridge than Animal Crossing! Trauma Center is still the near-hair-tairing frustration that I remembered it to be.

For brevity's sake, I decided to waltz through the challenges list and replay those that I had gotten C. This included the first two missions and I still haven't managed to get any higher in either. So far so good.

Then I start hitting those damn triti GUILT missions. The first was difficult but still manageable. I believe it was the second one that the swearing started to form. To keep myself willing to play on, I only played each Challenge once, then moved on to the next. Fortunately for me, I didn't have to do the Triti Sin one.

It was actually the next one (Fifth Sin, I believe?) that I was stuck on with my saved game. It starts out fine, the usual procedure of jabbing the mobile tumour with serum until the blue growth falls then lasering it and it's sub-units to death. Things get out of hand quickly once the central tumour comes within range of the laser more and more often. It's at the stage where the mini-tumour part is quickly followed by the "send sub-unit to slash exposed flesh", giving you merely two seconds to zap it dead before it hurts the patient, that it all snowballs.

I swear at it a bit more, then as calmly as I could power down the DS. Screw it for another day.

In like Flynn, brothers and sisters. My boyfriend's getting worn out and I could totally use a new one.

I think I'm abiding by all the criteria (and even some I don't have to), but if anyone could give me any pointers I'd certainly appreciate it. I was definitely going for variety with this one...

1. Jak X Combat Racing (PS2) - Recieved this as an anniversary gift after Christmas last year. Looking forward to taking this on.
2. Star Ocean 3 (PS2) (Rule #8) - Played it for three hours and was interested, but forced by natural disasters to leave it behind. Will be starting a new file, becuase I'm a huge glutton for punishment!
3. Serious Sam 2 - Bought this last year; am waiting to get a TV larger than thirteen inches and a decent place to sit while playing so I can appreciate the various graphical improvements, and I'm totally looking forward to taking this on.
4. Resident Evil 4 (GCN) (#9; playing friend's copy at friend's house) - Gave it a shot, and was thoroughly frustrated. This seems like the sort of game to play on a cold night while surrounded with snacks and camaraderie, and I'll be living near the friend-in-question sometime soon; this looks like a real trip.
5. Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy (XBX) - Halfway through this one, but I'll be restarting this for the benefit of showing the whole thing to a couple of excellent people.
6. The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures (GCN) (Rule #3 - Co-op) - Partway through THIS one; stopped because my GBA's screen has been shattered! I'll get this one taken care of as soon as I can get it repaired.
7. Yourself! Fitness (XBX) - While this game doesn't have an "ending", practically EVERYONE knows that "beating" this game involves creating a workout schedule and sticking to it for a full month, unlocking all the background music in the process. I'll post pictures for proof!
8. Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge (XBX) - Played through the opening of this one with a few comrades. Highly enjoyed it, too!
9. Virtual Console title? (NES/SNES/TG16/GEN) (Rule #4/#5; have to own it) - This one's up in the air. Illusion of Gaia would be a fine choice, but I'll have to pick and choose depending on what comes out for it.
10. Amped 3 (360) - Never played this one, and I don't even own the console it's on! This will all change sometime soon, and (having played everything else elsewhere) this is the 360 game I'm looking forward to playing the most.
11. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team (NDS) (Breaking rule #2; #9) - While technically "made" in 2005, I imagine the contest was made to keep you from purchasing new games. Can't help it; I may as well get credit for this one.
12. Pokemon Emerald (GBA) - 80% of the way through this one (Groudon and Kyogre are duking it out still), and I'm looking forward to exploding the Elite Four. Wonderful!
13. Resident Evil: Deadly Silence (NDS) - Finished with Jill's scenario in Classic mode; I'll soon be going through Chris'.
14. Threads of Fate (PSX) - Partway through Rue's scenario, but I'll be starting over and going through both. Was turned off by Mint's tendency to use the word "Dang"; it reminds me of all the people I was surrounded by in the sixth grade.
15. Dragon Quest VIII (PS2) - The grand finale! I bought this on launch day and totally forgot about it. I have no idea when I'll be starting this one, but I'm going to stage a victory on the cusp of Christmas morning.

Sixteenth game will be dictated by the criteria that is put forth, though I have a few in mind. I'll have to get started tomorrow afternoon! I guess that means less time on web forums, huh? :(

Smartblue and I had a long discussion at work today and we decided that it would probably be best to go ahead and drop the count to 10 games instead of dropping it later. This is mostly due to the fact that interest keeps increasing as time goes on and we want people to have a reasonable challenge if they are coming later than those who have already started.

So, 10 games.

However, if you want to do the 15 game challenge still I encourage you too. I and many others will still set my goals high and accomplish 15 games throughout the course of the rest of the year. I do understand, though, that people have school and other things that they must attend to and we want to give a fair chance to everybody to complete this challenge.

Also! After you beat a game, please send me a PM! My first post in this thread will be changed and updated to reflect current stats of the members of this club.

PM'd information should include:

1. Game beaten
2. How many games beaten out of 10 or 15 (be sure to specify your goal)
3. What rules you completed (handheld, retro game, etc)

Then be sure to post an entry in this thread to recount the journey you took to beat the game (especially if it's a hard one!!) along with pictures of your quest if you are able to take some.

I will update my post as soon as the first person sends in info. I will also be updating my sig to reflect my own personal stats along with a link to the thread if anyone would like to as well.

Well, back to windwaker for me! With any luck I'll have it finished tonight! I just reached Ganon's castle last night after beating Gyruss.

I really hadn't realized that the Sin missions in Trauma Center were the last few before the plot was over. I could do the X ones, but I keep hearing that they're ULTRA UTTER HIGH DAMAGING UPPER-CUTTING HARD and I'm scared that I'll never finish it if I go on. I have enough difficulty with Final Sin!

Fifth Sin with Pempti?? GUILT was nasty to me still. I failed once, twice, three times and then crushed it with 27 vitality to spare. In fact, I didn't clue into the fact that it was over until several seconds after no new sub-unit appeared to taunt me and make me swear/cry.

Sixth Sin with Paveski?? GUILT went off without a hitch, oddly enough. When I had retried the mission it first starred in, I failed to keep it from the heart. Here, even though I was absolutely slow in getting it out, I had the majority tweezered in the first part and only three segments left in the third section of the body. I sewed the child up and sent him off to the supposed transportation the Final Sin alluded to.

I'm not quite done, as Savato continues to elude me once past the web portion. I'm absolutely fine with cutting the web, lasering those pesky little bugs and generally making a nuisance of myself against the BIG GUY. Once he's free to roam, it seems he knows just when to use the "3 slashes in 120 degree arc" attack so I'm forced to throw my hands in the air (hopefully keeping my dual sticks in my hands) and give up, weeping a little on the inside while the poor child's heart is made into so much ground beef.

And then the nurse has the gall to want to call Dr. Miller over to see that yes, he cannot do anything about a heart that's sliced six ways to Sunday and what you have on your hands is a cooling corpse of a child. He's a man, for crying out loud; not even the Healing Touch can cure DEATH.

I turned it off before I exploded.

Will beat Boktai (Handheld)

I have no idea what JRPG I'd be willing to play.
Also, I'm assuming NES Classics (for GBA) and stupid compilation discs (like Mega Man Anniversary Collection) count as emulated.

And since everyone comes over to my place to play video games, looks like alternate 9 isn't possible for me.

This is going to be very rewarding.
I will greatly enjoy starting and finishing the games that sat on the self
while I wasted away these past four years of servitude to education.

My selection of choice ...

1. Tetris DS (2006)
2. Disgaea: Hour of Darkness (PS2) (2003)
3. Grandia III (PS2) (2006)
4. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (SNES) (1995)
5. .hack // Infection (PS2) (2003)
6. Animal Crossings: Wild World (DS) (2005)
7. Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonace (GBA) (2002)
8. Katamari Damacy (PS2) (2004)
9. We Love Katamari (PS2) (2005)
10. Serious Sam 2 (XBOX) (2005)
11. Kirby's Dreamland (GB) (1992)
12. Kirby's Dreamland 2 (GB) (1995)
13. Chibi Robo (GC) (2006)
14. Pikmin (GC) (2001)
15. Pikmin 2 (GC) (2004)

Saturday night I beat Tetris DS by playing until the counter stopped counting the lines that I was clearing because the counter on goes up to
999 lines. I have also beaten all the puzzles and areas of the game. So, that's one down and fourteen more to go!

I'm almost finished with both Disgaea and Animal Crossings. I just haven't gotten around to finishing them.

Alright, finished my first game (on Monday). I'll post pictures soon enough. I finished Lego Star Wars for the Game Cube. I'd had the game for a while now and just never got around to playing it. I had played the X-Box version and wanted to get around to playing my own copy. I opened and started the game on Saturday evening, finished through Episode I. Played a little on Sunday; maxing out all the studs and canister peieces in Episode I and finishing and clearing 100% of Episode II. On Monday afternoon I finished Episode III, maxed out the studs and canisters and completed the extra stage (Episode IV). So, that's one game down (completely, there isn't anything else to do other than just mess around playing the old levels) with all the characters and unlocks completed. Now on to something else; which hasn't been decided yet.

Week 2: Trauma Center COMPLETED
- Rule 6 Complete (handheld)
- Rule 7 Semi-complete (2 different systems)

It was a tough battle with the Final Sin. I hate Savato and its ilk with a vengeance, always causing me to fail due to the most elementary of game elements.

In the first movement, one must clear the web. But, you must also keep the parasites from a newly created strand in check or suffer misery. Also, you must cut quickly or the web will take a measure of lifeforce from the still beating heart. This is but an easy task with dual sticks, for one hovers about the laser implement whilst the other busies itself with the work and selecting scalpel and injection. The parasites burn underneath the focused beam, always making sure that six do not still move from the first pass. Otherwise, they will quickly dig out one of their breeders, to the loss of the patient's lifeforce. Once or twice did they get out of control of the doctor and always with severe consequences.

However, the first movement does little to prepare one for the second. For in the second, one must keep their laser on top of the rapidly moving Savato, so that it's carapace is burned off and the soft flesh exposed to scalpel and needle. Contrary to what was expected, one can ignore the parasites and the grievous wounds that Savato inflicts on the patient. The only response the doctor should give is injection whenever the beam of fire needs to be recharged. Ointment can be administered for the gashes from time to time, so the lifepulse of the patient does not run through them.

Savato cannot be ignored for long. If it perceives that the invading doctor is standing idle with his instruments, it likely will charge to a certain point and slash open the heart thrice. Waiting overly long will cause it to do this nigh constantly to the death of the patient. Constant firepower is the only option.

Once Savato is struck thrice by the scalpel, it moves not. Only then can injection of the serum be done. Once complete do NOT, under any circumstances, switch directly to the Healing Touch and attempt to slow it down. The doctor ended his game in this manner when he did the manual one first and the automatic one failed to register. The doctor was shamed, but bravely restarted to happy completion of the second injection.

I had a quick attempt at the first of X series of challenges and found it extremely challenging. So I called it quits there, not wanting to spend a lot of time pretty much memorizing the levels and leaving my schoolwork (small as it is at the moment) untouched.

I don't think I'll start with Arx Fatalis as I had planned in my mind; instead I'll be attempting to complete rule 5 and get it over with, so I don't have to worry about the co-op rule 3. I don't particularly have any unfinished games that play in that manner. :/

So that means, instead of Gunstar Super Heroes, which I previously thought about doing, I'll be focusing my attention next week on Advance Guardian Heroes and taking it from the top.

So yeah,

I had an awesome, rough week but here I am! Back to kick some butt.

I had actually tried to make a post thursday night, but our internet went out just as I was posting. I had the pics up and everything!

I beat WindWaker last Thursday night and here are the pics of the fruits of my labor.

Here's me, rollin for glory all ovah ganon.

I finally get to insert my pe...I mean, Master Sword into Ganon.

I got really pissed at this game at the end. It took almost an extra half hour just to land the FINAL BLOW. I couldn't understand what I was supposed to do and my friend and I just about had it out as well, ha ha. I was on the verge of just turning the console off and doing it later when I finally struck. For some reason I didn't realize that while I was supposed to redirect the arrow at Ganon and then press the A button to do the counterattack parry I was supposed to hold onto the L button as well. Ah well, I finally be the game so no harm done.

In the end I was really sad that the game was over. I enjoyed the fact that I had invested the time to beat what will be a classic title and was happy that I got to experience it. I may play through it again with the normal clothing this time around. = )

For those of you who have beaten games, remember to send me a PM! That way I can more easily update the information in my first post instead of having to scrounge around the posts to see who has beaten what and possibly miss something.

I think I'm going to start up Earthbound this weekend and maybe FFX along with another SNES or NES title.

I wasn't sure how to score CV1 on GBA (though I thank you for taking the initiative). If it counts as a GBA game, doesn't that mean I could turn around and beat it emulated on Xbox and have it count as another game?

Then again, I guess you could do that with any close port, but that would be violating the spirit of the rules.

But if I beat the Metroid unlockable in Metroid Prime, that should really count as an emulated NES game, right?

Oh, and now I'm on Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and Altered Beast: Guardians of the Realms.

I've been on Ages/Seasons for a long, long time. I played about 2/3 of the way through emulated many years ago and never got all the way through. Tried again about two years ago maybe and stopped yet again.

Here's me asking for help with Seasons on this board over a year ago: http://forums.insertcredit.com/viewtopic.php?p=8055&highlight=seasons#8055

That's after I'd already given up on it for a couple months, so I haven't played the game in like a year and a half. I just picked it up again last night and now I'm on dungeon 6. You're going down!

Altered Beast GBA is mostly mindless button mashing (like the original!) but I think Altered Beast is awesome so I think I'm finally going to go ahead and finish it off. Pretty close to the end already.

I'd finish off Viewtiful Joe but that last level (the all-boss one) totally creams me. Do all the bosses have super-duper hidden weak points that I'm unaware of or do I just suck? That friggin game is harden than Ninja Gaiden Black.

Yarr, Advance Guardian Heroes is complete for this week.

First week of classes is over and I'm sitting here in my cozy little room on a Sunday procrastinating. I attempted to get somewhere with my school work, but the first thing I tried was Advanced Calculus work and I wasn't getting anywhere fast. So I turn to my laptop to emulate this GBA game of mine.

I have played this game before, but really haven't done well. I usually crash and burn in the last bit of the second stage or somewhere in the third. I still had that if I had really wanted to start from there, but I figure I may as well learn to play all over again from stage 1-1. Seeing as how I didn't make any real progress, I've only the three normal heroes to choose from. I go for Ray; he tends to be my choice when I play this game.

Things went smoothly. Jumping from falling rock to falling rock was magical, as I've only succeeded in doing this once. The rest of the stage went quickly, sparing no time in defeating the red swordsman and moving on to the ogre and then the big bot.

I focused on putting points in DEF, ATT, MND and whatever HP is defined in this game. Although in retrospect I probably didn't have to worry about MND so much as it was on Easy difficulty. I eventually was a juggernaut who could knock normal enemies in one hit and physical attacks could be scoffed at; magic attacks were something to worry about still.

The third stage is the one where you have to jump from missile to missile, using that jump lock-on ability, and at the end deal with Zur while trying not to fall from sporadic debris that floats past. Before this I could not figure out how to do it on command. Now, I was a regular frog, being able to hop back and forth from falling rock to missile to debris to ledges to hovering discs of wierdness.

I didn't really pay attention to the discussion of AGH previously on these forums, but I now realize what I'd missed. The finale being a button press after a 10 second countdown to prevent pure energy from destroying the Earth? That was entirely unexpected! All this time I thought my main quarry was that clownish dude, but he was destroyed after the initial foray into his "world".

SO, at 00:00:06 !!! (in min/sec/millesec format), the world was saved and my week quest was done nearly before it had started.

WEEK 3 - Advance Guardian Heroes
Rule 5 COMPLETE (owned game emulated)
Rule 7 Three Quarters COMPLETE (GBA, 3rd system)

I entered the Elite Four arena after building up my party to their early forties, and proceeded to wipe the floor with them using my male Gardevoir.

As time grew on and I was forced to negotiate battle after battle, my roommate became my audience and utilized the type/effectiveness ratio chart in the back of my Mystery Dungeon Rescuer's Guide alongside Wikipedia's extensive Pokémon database for a devestating combination attack. Even so, it rarely altered my tactics as Michelle slaughtered everything (after the first trainer, which was left mostly to Aggron) with his thoughts -- every instance of Psychic was accompanied by a middle finger and a straight-out "Fuck you!"

The highlight came when I was battling Wallace. The bastard lashed out against me with a Ludicolo, which Double Teamed repeatedly until it was near-impossible to hit. After losing half my Pokémon to his Giga Draining and Surfing, I switched over to Sceptile; in the throes of combat he had used all his effective moves, and attempted to Leech Seed and Double Team me while I lashed out against him with Cut until he had gotten to the red; Wallace mercifully decided against giving it a Full Restore as it Struggled so hard it collapsed from recoil.

VICTORY!

So! I beat a game!

Lego Star Wars II (well, the story mode, which should count as beating it, right?).

This fulfills rules 1, 3 (co-oped the whole thing), 1/4 of rule 7 (Xbox 360), and rule 9 (in that it breaks rule 2).

I have no idea what game is next. Maybe I will finish indigo prophecy? who knows?

I am withdrawing from BAG club.

Why? Because time limits makes games less fun. Also I didn't beat Prince of Persia in time.

I thought each week you started a game; that's all you needed to do. You don't necessarily HAVE to finish in that week (as evidenced by RyogAkari's playthrough of Wind Waker), but it's an easy guideline to remember. If you can't manage 15 games, then 10 is still open and is a large number. I doubt anyone could finish a JRPG from start to finish in a week unless they devote all their free time to it.

In fact, I think you could "pre-start" some of the more longer games, if you so choose.

I doubt the BAG club ever started out as a COMPETITION.

Re-joining BAG club.
Why?
Because I remembered that I DID beat a game this week. Co-op, even.

METAL SLUG 1
Played through the whole thing in MAME with my brother. Credit-feeding like mad, but I'm still going to count it... because I can!
Soo yeah. What a game. Less epic than MS3, but more fair.

RULE 2: Check
RULE 3: Check
RULE 5: Check

This is it, Jak! The yellow cup GRAND PRIX! The winner of this race will be a Class D Grand Champion, and take home ALL the MARBLES! Rumor has it that a mystery racer will be showing up -- so be ready for anything! We're counting on you, Jak!

This was a total cakewalk. I'm ashamed of the TV and the scenery surrounding it; luckily, in anticipation of this thread, I decided to move into a new apartment and procure something suitable for playing games on.

Two down, thirteen to go. I'm starting on the next one tomorrow!

WEEK 1 - Pokémon Emerald!
WEEK 2 - Jak X: Combat Racing!

I'm in. The only game on my list right now is Panzer Dragoon. This game has ever haunted me, mocking my inept abilities with it's cold impermeability. No more! Zarak, your courage has inspired me! I will overcome the beast that is PD.

I don't have any money, so I might have to finish off the challenge by breaking the other nine rules! Or maybe just eight, I think I've got a tiger handheld around here somewhere. would that count?

I will report back with progress.

good luck all.
