I think that's the most efficicent fortress that I've ever seen, what with the main hall doubling as food storage and all.

And getting to the demons early makes a lot of sense since that way you avoid the most time-consuming part of the game, which I find to be building up your defenses for the sieges (which is what I'm currently doing in my game and I'm having the exact same problem with my mechanic).

Okay, I came up with ten games I'm interested in trying to beat. I'm not strictly following the rules, but whatever, I'm sure I won't get through all these before the year is out anyways.

Shoot the Bullet
Perfect Cherry Blossom
Metal Gear Solid 3
Shadow of the Colossus
Devil May Cry
God Hand
Pikmin 2
Paper Mario 2
Under Defeat*
Yoshi's Island

edit: also maybe:
Steel Battalion
SkyGunner
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat

*1CC

1CC? Difficulty? Slow mode?

Also, nobody can beat Shoot the Bullet. Nobody.

Well, I was just sitting around and waiting for the end by that point. And my farmers were making great strides with their 100+ store of mushroom spawn. I didn't feel like making store rooms (which I usually do underneath the farms), so I just made it all in the space available.

Which so happened to be my hallway.

It could be even more efficient if I just made a huge barracks instead of individual bedrooms.

No, I'm just going to try to get through them by whatever means necessary. I've been sitting on unopened copies since May.

Nevertheless, I heartily reccomend replacing Shoot the Bullet with something humanly possible for this quest. I got to one stage and tried it dozens, perhaps hundreds of times over the course of several weeks before giving up. This stage was in the third set of stages. There are ten.

I mean, seriously, look at this:

And that's not even in the last stages!

OK, I was reading the games people had, so I've decided to start up a few games that I have not touched in a while.

I had saves for most of the games, and I was pretty far along in a good portion of them, but alas, I formatted my memory card by accident one day, so that's going to make this a bit more difficult.

GC:
1080
Metroid Prime
PN03
Beyond Good and Evil
Killer 7
Viewtiful Joe

PS2:
DMC3
Chaos Legion
Auto Modellista
Silpheed
Gitaroo Man
Taiko Drum Master
SOTC
Front Mission 4
Socom 2+3
ICO
Tenchu
Airforce Delta Strike
Skygunner

DS:
Lost in Blue
Metroid Prime Hunters
Feel the Magic

GBA
Sigma Star Saga
Gekido adv.

n64
Paper Mario

I'm going to play through the games based on how easy they are for me to get around playing. Most likely i'll do the GBA/DS stuff and ps2 stuff first.

Violating the spirit but not the letter of the rules, I bought Canvas Curse and beat it in the past week.

Me and a friend have put an ungodly amount of time into trying to beat that cocksucker Shao Kahn in Shaolin Monks to no avail. I knew playing on Hard would catch up to us sooner or later. Well, as soon as we take care of that fag that'll be a game beaten on co-op. It's only a matter of time.

Still on the final boss of Oracle of Seasons. Ganon's way more trouble than he's worth. Need to hit an FAQ and figure out how to get the Sword-3.

Also on the final stage of Advance Wars 2, but the final levels of that game are so damn overwhelming it's hard to work up the motivation.

Some of my games are going to be tougher than I need. Godhand is proving pretty difficult, and Shoot the Bullet is pretty ridiculous. I spent about an hour just getting through the first and second levels.

edit: damnit. I played through 3-2 not knowing about charge mode. well that should make it a little easier now.

I just beat through level 3 in Shoot the Bullet. Man, this is a great game. I don't think anyone had ever impressed upon me enough just how good. It might be my new favorite shooter. Anyways, are you sure there are 10 levels? It is only showing 6 right now.

11, actually.
Stage 1-6
Stage 2-5
Stage 3-6 (This is as far as I have gotten)
Stage 4-3
Stage 5-8
Stage 6-3
Stage 7-8
Stage 8-2
Stage 9-7
Stage 10-8
Stage Ex-1

EDIT: Interestingly enough, right after making this post I went back to the game and beat stages 3-6 through 4-5. Woo!

Legend of the Mystical Ninja complete for this week.

I've quite a few choice words for this game. If I had actually done it on the console, I would probably not have completed it at all. However, it has this pacing where it is easier in the beginning--all that's required is that you can swing a stick and keep out of harm's way--and then gets bogged down with having to buy these $980 items to proceed into the dungeon near the end. Which is at least the amount you need for the other items to keep you alive in that dungeon (pizza, armor, helmet). This isn't so bad when you have the concentration game that has a few preset layouts (and liberal use of save states; I wasn't going to waste time grinding money the old-fashioned way) and a perfect nets you $620 profit.

It was doing the Painting game over and over that really got to me; the other two games being barely profitable and not worth trying. I usually don't mess up really badly, but only acquiring $80-160 profit each time? It was really, really irritating to do it over and over again just so the "secret passage's door" can be destroyed, even though I know where it is. It was video game logic that that doesn't make sense in reality.

The waterfall stage really irritated me. 2nd last stage in it's entirety annoyed me. The final boss was interesting to start, but the slim margin for error afterward pissed me off. I ended up save stating at the start of his 2nd form (which for me is a rarity; I dislike using save states after having watching my younger brother do the same thing...and not get any better in the games he resorted to it) and kicked his old man's ass.

Ok, time to update as promised! (if not a few days short....)

My internet has been bad ever since I moved. I haven't had time to go hook up cable internet yet and in order to leech internet I have to be outside. Atleast it's free!

EDIT:

Ok, it's done! If you haven't PM'd me, it's not up!

So, what's new guys?? I'm now off of my honeymoon (both unofficially and officially) so I'll be back to game playing. I lost a couple of weeks with the wedding and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon was taking a LOT longer than I thought it would to beat!!!!!!

By the way, I don't know if I've mentioned this yet but because there is so much interest in games that were released in 2005 Japan but did not make it over here till 2006, I am officially accepting them as entries as 2005 games. That means FFXII is fair game for those of you who would like to sell your soul to it. That also means that Children of Mana would be a perfect co-op for you guys that still need to do that! (me included!).

I'm also officially lowering the count for everyone to 10 games. Let's face it, if you are not Grimsweeper, it doesn't look very possible, ha ha. ^-^ (Good job Grim!) However if you need to play more games than 10 to get in all of the requirements, that is certaintly fine.

Once the first person who has reached all of the requirements beats their last game to fulfill their quota, I'll announce the rules for the Extra Challenge game to win the full prize. I hope to complete Pokemon Mystery Dungeon sometime today and hopefully will get to update again with that game!

I took the liberty of doing another game early.

Megaman Soccer, of all the things for a licensed video-game character to be in, this is one of the wierdest I've seen. It's also quick playing and some very handy "glitches" that I took advantage of.

I played through the Capcom Championship, which somewhat mirrors the Megaman games in that you have to play against the 8 -man teams before you can forge onward to Wily's Fortress. Then you have to take on Enkers, Protomen (uhh...), and finally the team of Dr. Wily clones in their battle suits. The games are 5 minute halfs, with the ability to use 2 Special Shots each match that correspond to each -man's unique ability (Cutman puts a spin on the ball that slices through the first robot to touch it, making them fall to pieces for a few seconds).

However, there are two little glitches that make this game much easier.

The first is the fact that the right side goalkeeper's AI can be drawn out of his box when you get close to the bottom corner, allowing you to swiftly move down, forward and kick it in with no problems. You can't do this with the left side goalkeeper (or I haven't found a way yet) and since you switch sides each half, you do your goal scoring when you're on the left side attacking the right. Because of the strength of the 2 Special Shots (they can go through the goalie if he is the first to touch the ball), I tend to get at least 3 goals. Then I got lazy and only went for 1 non-Special goal, keeping them in reserve if the other team managed to break out of the other glitch.

This glitch is mobbing the corner. When you have the ball, you move to the top corner of your end, hopefully drawing in two other men on your team and one from the other. The resultant crowd in that corner (the arena's are walled for some reason, so no on the ground kick outs) makes it impossible for the enemy to get it out of there. As soon as he gets the ball from tackling one of my team mates, the other two are instantly tackling him. In this manner you can run down the clock at leisure.

This combination worked fine for the most part. Up until the point that Special Shots don't work against Enker, Protoman and Dr. Wily, actually. They have superior stats to the more common robots so I had to work hard in getting the ball in the net and keeping their guys from scoring on me.

The Protoman match scared me because I started off the second half on the right side 1-0 in my favour. They scored once fairly quickly, as I wasn't doing the corner orgy at the time. However, trying to set that glitch up, the supposed Protoman to be gangbanged didn't cooperate and tackled early, knocking the ball out of the corner. After taking several rebounded shots, it finally trickled in, putting me at a disadvantage. It would be no good if I lost; if I remember correctly I would have to start over from the beginning because I didn't pay close attention to the password beforehand. 3 minutes were left for me to constantly try to set up something in front of their goalie in the hopes that a cross would put him out of position and let me free access to their net. It took a long time as the other members of my team weren't very cooperative (stupid AI), but I managed a tie in the closing minute of the game. Shootouts were in my favour.

Taking Dr. Wily on afterward was a snap. I took the early lead in the first 30 seconds, then cornered successfully for the rest of the game.

There is no ending screen, unfortunately. Once complete, the game boots you right back to the start.

Entry 9 is COMPLETE.

I'm the poster boy for procrastination!

This is also a good thing because I can take my leisurely time on the last one. Not to mention I'm kind of running out of relatively quick games-I've-played-before-but-didn't-finish.

I think my last will be getting through Evil Genius.

The first I completed was a JRPG: FFV. Since it was so long in the past, I would've forgot about it too if I didn't check my list of games from time to time in case I had something quicker to finish. What you might be thinking is I need to complete a Co-op game. That rule I plan to break. :)

Evil Genius will be around that amount of time of a smaller JRPG, though. This Dungeon Keeper clone seems to drag because you only have two different mountain lairs in the entire game and you switch 1/4 - 1/3? of the way through. And the world governments keep trying to disrupt your evil plans by sending their agents, from bumbling reporters to full-blown Super Agents.

I figure it's a good way to learn more patience. Or how to prepare your lair to be an invincible fortress of DOOM when I eventually take over the world.

Fooled you?

I totally missed that. I had just assumed that no one had completed that task yet, ha ha.

Anyway, I've completed Pokemon Mystery Dungeon!! YAYYYYY. That game took a lot longer than I thought it would. After investing roughly 18 hours into the game I beat the final boss in under 15 seconds. Apparently they don't think that you would be smart enough to link all of your moves together before facing the boss with link boxes to rock his world.

Anyway, it's off to Final Fantasy XII, Rocket Slime, and Children of Mana for me!

So I haven't actually played Evil Genius yet. It seems recently my DVD drive stopped working and I suspect the contact has been jarred loose, which has happened before. Fortunately, I'm heading home this weekend so I can get my dad (computer consultant/tech on the side) to open it up and firmly put it back together.

I'd do it myself, but I just can't seem to get the little screws to start unwinding.

Naetheless! I will be finishing my 10 games, even if I have to find another game to occupy my time.

Irrelevant bump in hopes that people might catch that this is still going on, disregarding the fact that there's been NO activity in this thread since Nov 1. It's not much of a competition if nobody else is participating, guys. :/

I'll say this right now: if nobody else finishes 10 games by the end of this, I'm seriously considering not accepting the CD-i.

On my end of things, my laptop is in better condition and does run Evil Genius now, although it takes a while for it to start up my saved game. It's in the slow phase of things, where you have to tediously build up your reputation as an evil genius. I suspect by the end of it I'll have to move on to a second, larger island to throw off the government agents.

Be careful about that I designed my base improperly and they always found the body bag room first, when they came (the agents that is), so make sure to build the incriminating rooms at the back of your base.
