Since the other mixtape thread (the theme was "FLYING THROUGH SPACE") has vanished for some reason that's probably not a very good one, I will start a mixtape thread. This will be a good mixtape if you'll all help me!!

The theme is

RUNNING ALONG THE CURVE OF THE EARTH

Notice how it's slightly related to the previous mixtape theme. This is because I, when wondering what kind of mixtape would come out, realized that all of the songs I know that are thematically about flying through space tend to mesh really well with a running workout.

So yes -- you're running along a road, dead alone, either at dusk or dawn, straight ahead, nothing in sight, when suddenly, something starts to . . . rise up on the horizon, and you realize in the pit of your stomach that the earth is round.

REQUIREMENTS

.mp3 please!!
minimum 128 kbps

send to number108 (at) gmail (dot) com, and . . . well, next Friday I'll see what works.

I don't know why but for a moment I thought the theme was begging for a piece of rez' soundtrack. But I won't submit any of it. Promise.

I kinda want to send the mash-up of Queen and G-Unit, "We Will Rock You In Da Club." It sounds the way I would imagine urinating onto a box of kittens to feel like. If I ever do get around to urinating onto a box of kittens, I'll try to get back to you.

Instead! No, no, it's so bad that I don't want to be associated with it. I'd rather send you some techno from some animu. I'll get around to it soon.

Also maybe someone should hail James and get the stuff from the last one and release it.

I don't know how to submit songs or whatever but if somebody could put anything on the mix tape from Slightly Stoopid (preferably from their "Longest Barrell Ride" or "Closer to the Sun" CD) on my behalf that'd be kewl.

first of all you're not supposed to say the name of your song in your post : (

second of all, this mixtape is something of a failure because people just keep complaining about the theme, three guys sent the same song, and the only good song so far was the one vinculum gate sent, which i already owned the fucking album of. (i would still use it on the mix.)

basically, i just want running music. i guess my pseudo-pretentious wording up there obscured that?

so yeah. running music. i will focus test all of the songs by listening to permutations of them while running; we will then see which combination takes me the longest, and farthest, over the course of a couple of weeks.

so . . . yes????

Oh yes, yes it did. I'll dig around a bit more then.

What was the one you've already got three of though?

I listen to Frank Zappa when doing my biweekly running from work trick to getting fit. But I'm not sure I could describe that as running music.

why, if i say that, it'll ruin the experiment.

if the one you send me is the one i have three of already, i will gladly notify you and allow another submission.

What the...

Jesus Christ this thread is important to me as a runner, I hope this is still happening.

Criteria for good running (even jogging) song:

-Fast Beat (around 120-190 bpm, not too fast)
-Fast Melody
-Somewhat uplifting or pleasurable to listen to (hard to run to something in a minor key)
-Slow ending, because if the song ends on a high note your motivation to run sort of finishes along with the song. The "Rocky" movie theme is an example of this. When that song finished during the middle of my run, I had the strong desire to stop!

My entry reflects these choices, and is in fact the song that made me want to make a short film about running.

At this point I'm mostly interested to see different peoples' conceptions of running music. It's a weird little non-genre.

I am facinated by the experiment!

Most mixtapes are the standard: "Best 80's Punk Songs" or "My Fav Beach Boys Tracks," but this is one of the few mixtapes I've seen that actually attempts to enchance a person's action!

The closest type of mixtape I have seen before are those love song/soul music mix CDs they sell during late night commercials. Because the music acts as an aphrodisiac, getting you in the mood. So without it your love making wouldn't be as good.

So I'm interested to find out if this mixtape will make me run farther, faster, and enjoy it more. Who knows, if this works we could come up with a "Firefighter Mixtape" so firemen will put out fires more efficiently, or a "Cancer Studying Mixtape," with which scientists could find a cure for cancer much faster.

Nope, I didn't change my avatar for this thread, I have had it for weeks. But if you wanna know what kind of running music does Jesus listen to, then ask himself.

yes, i am building up an actual significant playlist for this. these days i tend to run for just over an hour, and some of the songs have been skipped with pretty great vengeance. the song psiga sent, for example, cannot keep legs moving for more than a minute. so it is off the list.

so yes, i need a lot more to work with.

keep sending running music!! i'm sure this will turn out kind of interesting. we will then MERGE this into the health, beauty, and fitness thread!! when teh proper mix is teh achieved.

we should call it the PHITNESS thread when all is said and done.

Will you put the skipped tracks as well? I mean, as an aside, not part of the mixtape itself.
