Hmm. Interesting. One of the big things that soured me on the stand-alone demo (aside from it being about ten minutes long not counting the tutorial) was that the enemies didn't really DO anything with the somewhat gimmicky environment. Sure, YOU could drop barrels and shit on them by smashing the planks holding them up, and sure, YOU can arrow a rope in half and send a big ass bundle of wood slamming into the wooden platform hanging over the cliff, shattering it and sending a poor orc or two to their doom, but the enemies just kinda sat there and swung their swords at me. Maybe I'll download the Steam version and give it another look.
Either way, this will hopefully make for bitchin' deathmatches. |

This is the thread to point out and dwell on games that are going to come out within the next month or so. Without a thread like this, we might all miss games like Cooking Mama. And we wouldn't want to do that!
Speaking of Cooking Mama, I've had the Japan version for a while and it's really fun! It's not even really hard, just relaxing. It's one of those games you can pick up and play for a few minutes while waiting at the usual places we have to wait in.
I actually had no idea this was coming out here. It would have made a great present for my friend's daughter but instead I got her Super Princess Peach and Sonic. Not that there's anything wrong with that. |

I don't know, but I was already pissed when they pushed it back from early August. At least the website is awesome. |

I've been thinking about doing this, too! That, and Cooking Mama. I guess with classes going on these releases sort of snuck up on me.

i'm pretty confident at this point that ic's verdict is the only one i will trust on okami. which is saying something! (i'm not sure whether or not it's going to be boring)
at any rate: next week is rocket slime, which carries into mario vs dk 2, which carries into contact, which all but carries into final fantasy xii, into the wii, etc. we might just be back in business again. i mean, i don't know. but it's possible. |

I'm getting Okami on Tuesday, and I'll post impressions of the first couple hours of play because I have virtually nothing to do on Tuesdays after 12. SO you'll get it sometime in the evening. Hopefully pictures of me playing with the art board preorder bonus, too! |

Every review I've read compares it to Zelda. So I guess your opinion of Zelda should factor into whether or not you'll enjoy the game.
My questions though: Is it more Zelda than Zelda? A little too Zelda? Or does it pull a Colossus and do Zelda "right"?
Really though I'd like to play it just to take in the visuals. |

I will mention Zelda as rarely as possible. If I can figure out a stupid enough way, I will describe the Zelda-esque gameplay as if it is full of novel concepts that have never been tried before. I mean, aside from those that it actually does possess. |

This is a review scale that really should be implemented. ... = "Eh" or ! ="Check it out". Daily Radar had a pretty good system (Direct Hit, Hit, Miss, Dud).
I'm also imagining a review scale that would award letters, numbers, or animal shapes, sometimes in combination with each other. The world may not be ready, though. |

If anyone remembers that Futurama episode where Fry and Zapp find out what Snoot Snoot is, and are sentenced to death by it...then the revolving looks they give each other...Yeah, that's how I'm kinda feeling about Valkyrie Profile 2...
I've been trying to keep my hopes low, as I realize the issues people had with the first, and Star Ocean 3 has gone out of it's way to be as inaccessible (embarrassing even) as possible every free moment that I try to plug away at it. Yet the first VP took me by absolute surprise back in 2001. But I was expecting this game out early next year! Why so early? Will much of the voice work manage to be worse than the last one? Least the same character artist is working on this game, as I loved the illustrations for the first one above all. Still seems to be mostly a side-scrolling, if not in profile game. Still miss the sprites though...
So! Heres to characters not named after Dogs and Human ideas! If anyone is interested, I can post impressions on Wednesday night, if ya like. |

So, the years go by and still I care about RPGs. In fact, I continue to regard them as the Main Event, if only when considering the amount of time they demand. I only manage to play two or three a year at most, but hey, there are a number of interesting ones coming out this fall and winter. Let's see...
Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria
Contact
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner
Final Fantasy XII
Tales of the Abyss
.hack//GU vol. 1: Rebirth
Which ones will you be playing? Factoring in my videogame budget and the amount of time I'm likely to have to play these things, Contact and FFXII are the only ones I plan to buy on release. The others may or may not come later oh, the backlog swells. Have I missed any others?
Ah, yes, there's Rogue Galaxy... Out in early '07, I believe. Looking forward to that one. Persona 3, too! |

So wait, has anyone been able to find out what the deal is with the DS Gyakuten Saiban 2?
I mean, it seems highly unlikely Capcom would produce extra content *for America only, though such things aren't unheard of (Soul Calibur 2).
I'd just rather buy it in the near future than wait until next year, or whenever it's scheduled. Phoenix Wright was one of the highlights of my gaming year thus far, so more of the same would only be better. |

| Imagine my surprise when, while combing through EBgames's upcoming release list, I find a King's Quest Collection. It inculdes 1-7 (wisely excluding King's Quest 8) and it's only $20. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be a hot item as far as EB is concerned because none of the ten EB/GSs in driving distance have a copy. Why does EB have such an aversion to good PC games? |

Guys this might be a major "RESPECT DOWN!" on my part, but what of the pending Dragon Ball Z Tenkaichi 2/Sparking Neo?
The first Tenkaichi was pretty average, with probably the biggest fault being, uh, the gameplay? It's a terrible thing to say but it was pretty much the truth, since everyone played exactly like everyone else; moreso than in the Budokai games.
I mean I guess it's just nostalgia to my late elementary/middle school years, when DBZ was just starting to be a big thing, but I am sort of tempted about this new one.
It's probably the same sort of excitement I have for Mortal Kombat: Armageddon; I don't really care for the gameplay, but fuck, it has everyone ever in it. |

According to Wikipedia, Spike handled both of the Tenkaichi games.
Maybe DBZ isn't their fortι? I mean they're more wrasslin' I guess. |

Yes! Spike. I knew it was someone small and semi-respectable, like that.
We should make a list of S&S-R Japanese developers: Spike, Dimps, Yuke's, Genki...
Somehow a DBZ wrestling game makes even more sense than a versus fighter. |

Give me a few days. I'm getting a review copy from Atari. I thought Street Fighter DBZ was rather good though, if a little light on content. You need to play against a real person though, because aside from Vegetta, the AI is a chump. I liked how much emphasis it placed on positioning, and moving in all six directions to dodge and blindside your opponent. |

Probably. Sierra's website only has screenshots from KQ5-7, and if they'd bothered to make new art I'm sure they would advertise it.
EDIT: So, according to gamefaqs, this is how the KQ collection stacks up:
1990 EGA remake version of KQ1 (no original version)
Voice version of KQ5
Floppy disc version of KQ6 (has voice, but no high res portrait or cursor art)
Everything else only had one release. |

EBGames just put up the Wii section of their website -- alongside it, a fantastic preorder page for Super Swing Golf. My froth for this game is hitting the ground hard, guys. December simply isn't soon enough.
The 1UP Yours podcast featured the show's resident PS3 fan playing it in Tokyo and having a fucking blast -- then the Official Playstation Magazine crew stepped up with him and resumed having a fucking blast. It has been my contention, from day one of hearing about this game, that I will pick it up and have a fucking blast.
Here are some videos shamefully ripped from Gametrailers, for your viewing pleasure. |
