wow close.. except in this model we use a laptop to accept an input of your current mood, which then plays a random song from a bank of music previously selected by the user as music to fit that mood
the next step: make the laptop read your mood..
now i'm a fan of baby steps, so i'll start simple... i haven't decided on my apporach yet.. i have ideas.. but nothing solid yet |

so yeah exactly, my aim is to make it totaly dynamic, i haven't nailed down how exactly. but weather it be a heart monitor, breaths/time, or whatever. the foundation is layed, this is cause for celebration?!
why decide your mood when a computer can do that for you ?! |

| Galvonic skin response monitor to make it like a digital mood ring. Maybe some live mic action to tell how loud the environment is. Heartbeat monitor and/or pedometer to follow how active you are. It's possible to sense the mood of people from the tones in their voices, but making a portable device which accurately does that would be difficult. |

| Dude, I still say just use an ipod or some mp3 device and put it on random shuffle. That way you would have to make your life and mood fit the music! |

true, one could just adapt to the randomocity of the seed timer on their ipod...(boring) OR?!?!
one could let their music adapt to their surroundoings... i choose the ladder |

But a ladder to where?
This idea just promotes escapism and a disconnect with reality. You cease being a person once you have a theme song. You're a character. |

Your theme song would just be a perpetually looping ominous organ tritone crescendo, wouldn't it. |

wow i hope so ;a person in my state could only hope so, i mean to be so lucky as to be directed by the sounds that define you. instead of a chemical imbalance that tells you when to be happy, when to be sad, when to cry, when to smile yeah i should hope so.. you lucky bastard |

So the trick here is to somehow make a device that can read your mood through blood pressure/skin pressure/psychic pressure along with having a microphone to monitor the noise level and then wrap it all up into some sort of bundleable package with an iPod.
Because that's the only way to sell something like this!

ipod ftw, ipod has nothing to do with this, ipod is a means of translation, no matter the language the idea is the same
"this is your last chance, after this there is no turning back, take the blue pill and the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe what ever you want to believe. take the red pill you stay in wonderland and i show you how deep the rabbit hole goes" |

But I don't think this really helps though. People will just get lost in acting to produce music instead of living. No matter what's going on I'd rather face it than lose myself in some artificial stimulus. As a fun novelty perhaps, man, but I can't see this technology causing anything but problems. People are so bombarded with characters with bold uplifting themes from films I shudder to think what the pleb will do once they have the power to generate John Williams scores by committing acts of temerity. People wouldn't exist for their own sake as much as they would exist to act out the actions to produce pleasing juxtaposition of sound and life.
Imagine the pied piper music emanating from demagogues.
edit: I'm the type of person that wears noise-cancelling headphones and earplugs whenever possible. I'm extremely sensitive to noise.[/i] |

the following is a quote from an anonymous source "your boss is bitching and moaning about sales being down, costs being up, "We are going to have to start cutting back on our costs, from now on the air condition is not to be set below the setting marked 'Egypt'"
You sit quietly wishing she would shut the fuck up. Then the theme music begins your blood pressure raises, your heart rate increases maybe even the hair on the back of you neck stands up a bit, and before you know what you've done "Whaaa" "Hiyy yahh" "Thwack" "Thud" round house kick planted squarely into her ovary she hits the floor. Then she'd be like "WTF?" poof your fired, or worse you've just shot up a high school in Colorado and you are potentially facing death penalty, if nothing else you can never have too many things to blame it on, i mean first video games why can't music be next? if so I'd like to be a part of the movement that gets the blame. |

If he made it in the shape of a fetus, you would buy it no matter what. Just envision it as a bullet-point on the back of the package. |
