|
So I'll be at the Toys R Us Satuday night for the big Wii kick off, around 8 or 9ish. And I'm betting a few other ICers will be on-hand as well. And if so, who?
I believe there was some talk about hanging out all night long at the Nintendo World Store, but according to my sources, the TRU will be official, and only, place for Wii-happenings, at least sanctioned by Nintendo. A bit weird I know, considering that they have their own store just a few blocks away. But in case anything's happening there, I guess I'll stop by afterwards.
Why do I have a feeling this topic already exists? If so, and I'm blind, plus cut and remove, thanks. |

Wilkes has suckered me into going to TRU even though we're not going to buy ours there. Pete of Anamanaguchi fame might be coming with some friends as well. We're just going to get some pictures, maybe interview people, harass people, etc, and then either go get sleep or go to a diner or otherwise kill time until 6am to pick our stuff up from the NWS.
Have you talked to Jeremiah about his plans yet? |

I'll actually be in town this weekend, and I'm seriously debating it.
But do I REALLY want to wait it out just to shake some MARKETING EXECUTIVES hand? |

This would be the only night I'm out of town, of course. But if I were there I'd probably be at the Jamie Lidell/Man Man show anyway.
And according to the Wii finder, that TRU is receiving 84 units. Is this true? |

I really doubt that is the case. |

Note that it only lists major chains. Nintendo World Store's not even on there. |

I've heard that as well, which is a direct contrast to the earlier reports where they were supposed to have litterally hundreds of units on-hand.
Nintendo's PR firm hasn't responded to my enquiry over this, and the TRU media rep refuses to give out numbers, but I was told that "there should be enough for everyone."
If Sony was able to ensure that their launch HQ had 400 units when everyone else only got 8 or so, I'm pretty confident that Nintendo will have plenty on-hand as well.
dmauro, let me give Nullsleep a call. I didn't bother to ask him since I assumed he's just really busy with the chip fest in two weeks.
And who are you writing for? I'm going to be there for GSW. |

apparently the winning design was created by a 14 year old. hence the swiss army knife. (aka the reason the nazis didn't have the balls to invade switzerland) |

Okay, my last post before I head out (I have some filming in Central Park this afternoon... I'm going to be a furry that's obsessed with Bigfoot.... I'll explain later).
dmauro/wilkes/Isfet, give me a call later if you want, but once again, I'll definitely be there at 8ish. See you folks there! |

So the vid of me running around Central Park as a furry going around trying to find the grand OF, or Original Furry, aka Bigfoot is still not up, but it should be any day now over at the Weekly World News website.
I will confess that I don't slam furries as much as I wanted, but hey... at least some of the dialouge I came up with was used, and its all harmless fun anyway.
Regarding the Wii launch, I have some pics of myself, Isfet, Wilkes, dmauro, and Nullsleep, but I forgot to upload them before going to work. Damn.
Anyway, for those who might be interested...

That's a really good writeup. Some of the details you're reporting about the event are surprisingly touching. Your contrasts to the recent PS3 launch and the superb treatment Nintendo provided for all those people, as well as the large percentage of casual and nongamers who genuinely wanted a Wii -- it's really good stuff.
I didn't come because I can't afford a magic box right now, but now I rather wish I did, just to experience the event. |

| Thanks. I'm pretty sure that once it hits the denizens of the NeoGAF, I'll get reamed for being so pro-Nintendo. Then again, they look for any chance to give me shit over there, hence why I'm a bit hesitant to pass it along over there myself. |
