So I was reading an update on Boing Boing about a 92 year old man speaking about cannibalism.
[T]he best food, or at least the best protein, is that which is most like our own. Of course, eating others of our kind gives rise to social problems, and is rare as a result, but it happens. In times past, among some of the Pacific Islands peoples, since a butchered human very much resembled a butchered pig, it was referred to as "long pig". I presume these cannibals ate only their enemies, not their family members, no matter how tasty they may have looked. Most of us have accepted that humans are precious in the sight of God, while ordinary pig, or "short pig", is OK nutrition.
This made me realize something: You know how scientists are figuring out how to grow beef meat in vats? Unless science develops a more bioavailable protein than our own, we may ultimately get into the wholesale growth of human meat as the most effective source of protein. It'll be like Soylent Green, but nobody will be murdered for it. Isn't that weird?
So, yes. What's the current IC crowd's take on MEAT? Do we have many vegetarians left, and/or amusing stories of friends who are? I've ultimately found that my body just does better on meat protein than the vegetable protein equivalents. A bit allergic to soy, avocado, wheat, and so forth. Leaves me more tired after eating than before eating. Not so with meat, though. Not so with meat.

| Psiga, have you read Transmetropolitian? Because in it, there's a fast-food franchise called Long Pig that sells vat-grown human meat. It'd be right up your alley, I think. |

I did read Transmet. What a story, what a story. 1%!
I'm actually not sure if I'd be into the ol' long pig.
dongle, I can't recall if you mentioned: Why'd you switch? |

I love meat. Give me steak, lamb, goat, pork, poultry if you must. Chicken is all well done, steak is all medium-rare. I've always said I'll die happy, not necessarily healthy.
Would I eat Man? No, that's disgusting on principle. Same goes for household pets (but then, if I don't know what it is when it's served to me, then bon apetit!). |

I am a pretty big meat fan.
My opinion on that really is "If we're not supposed to eat meat, why does it taste so good?" We are predisposed to eat things that would be good for us. Candy tastes good, because it has a lot of energy, meat tastes good because it has lots of protein, vegetables taste good because they have vitamins, etc. You'll note, of course, by my first example that this "tastes good!" rule doesn't say anything about the quantity or frequency at which we should eat these things, however.
Also, incisors.
(no problem with vegetarians for health reasons, itt) |

| I'm a fan of tasty meats, and will most likely always be. Lately though, I've been finding it harder to eat the stuff. Like I actually am feeling somewhat sickened by it. Either I'm slowly turning into a veggie man or this is just further proof that I am in fact possessed. |

| Meat is fucking awesome. If you're a vegetarian I hope it's because you honestly prefer the taste of vegetables to ANY meats, and not because you're some kind of a fucking hippie. Either way. you're totally missing out, you hippie. |

reminds me of this story
A cameraman was mistaken for bacon.
I suppose if human meat is going to be eaten in the future, it's better for us to be the ones eating it. no? |

| I eat meat because I am quite fond of the taste. Also because humans are supposed to eat meat. |

Man I can just see a robotic chef mistaking one of the human staff's arm or something for a chunk of pig and slicing bacon off in strips while the human screams in agony.
I'm glad I'll be dead long before robots adapt to the point of having models that utilize organic reactions to generate electricity and we become a delicacy. |

That is a really good short story, by the way.
I wrote a paper once on why that particular video version is a fucking travesty compared to the original -- though it means well, and succeeds here and there. |

I eat most meat, but the smell of pork really fucking upsets me, especially because I've seen those motherfuckers eat their own shit as well.
So yeah, although I don't religously avoid pork, I tend to not eat it.
Apparently if we spent the money we spent on meat on grain and stuff, heaps more people elsewhere in the world would be able to eat.
If that's the case I'd take one for the team and eat much less meat, although it would be difficult for me. |

I initially went vegetarian 5 or 6 years ago for animal rights, then I did some more research and became vegan 2 years ago for sustainability concerns and to not be a hypocrite.
As a relevant aside, I shit about five times per day. TOO MUCH FIBER |

Yea, well. In NYC you can usually see the friers where they dunk the chicken pieces. Since the demographic is significantly black and hispanic, there ain't no way they're passing rat off as anything with feathers. We'd know.

Fun fact: in New Guinea, the Japanese soldiers called the Dutch people they ate white meat and the indigenous people they ate dark meat.
There was some screwup and the Japanese military never sent them any food. Even with the cannabilism, only like 1% of them survived. |

I really wish that horse meat were more available here in the USA. Steak du cheval is the best steak I've ever had.
As for meat in general, I make sure to get a complete protein with every meal I eat. Eggs for breakfast, and meats for the rest of the day. |
