|
Picked it up today, and as I now have two guitar controllers, invited a bunch of friends over and we've spent the past 5 hours doing co-op play. Unlocked 8 tiers of songs so far, I'm not sure what else I can do but this one seems to have a lot more in it than part 1. And individual difficulty settings for each player are a grand idea.
I'm not sure how they secured the rights to "Killing in the Name of" but thank God they did. |

| Having Danzig's "Mother" on the track list makes me so happy. This one is certainly much better than the first one, and even has better and more songs. |

I just can't handle how bad the singer is on "Mother". Doesn't sound like Glenn at all. Same goes for the absolutely laughable RATM cover.
On the whole, GH2 is a pleasant mix of more of the same. Input is improved. There are lots of good songs. The "bonus" tracks are surprisingly excellent.
The bad - the cover singers are often horrible, much worse than the first game. The developers seemed to mistakenly believe that longer "epic" songs = more fun to play. I think that's dead wrong, I actually prefer short to medium length songs. |

The cover singers are about terrible. Seriously, the first game had me wondering if they were covers, and this game makes me hate the covers. |

Expert, duh.
I really like the intense moments when you know that your meter is low, but you can't see just how low because you have to concentrate ever so hard on catching whatever notes you can.
Except I don't think I ever got close to that. It was really easy :(
**
I want to see a guitar game where you plug an actual guitar into a game console and it teaches you from step one. It would be an educational guitar game like the educational piano games yuppie parents buy for their kids. Except you'd replace cuddly anthropomorphic characters with cuddly faux punk rockers. And more skulls.
Edit:
That last chunk makes it seem like I don't like Guitar Hero as is. That is not the case. I enjoy it for what it is, but it also makes me really yearn for Guitar Hero as I just imagined it. |

Play it on expert... or even hard for that matter. I think you'd change your mind.
EDIT: well fuck |

| Fuck yes. Played it with friends last night for about five hours straight. Trogdor is soul-enhancing. |

This was pretty much my sentiment since the first game came out. |

| I like how the solo in Trogdor is noodly-noodly, just like how Strong Bad would think a totally awesome electric guitar solo would sound! |

| I've heard the versions of the songs aren't as good as they sound on the first game. Is this true? |

Yeaaah, the covers are generally not as good this time around. Well, most of 'em. They sound like covers now. Still, it's not enough to really bother me. And shit, dude, PRIMUS? Hot.
Also, the little easter egg for "Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight" was hysterical. |

Hey, the song is called "Killing in the Name," okay?!
Also, I like going into practice mode and playing the bass lines.
And, uh, how come the bonus songs are all the originals while the main songs (except "John the Fisherman") are all covers? What's the point of that? |

| It's really hard to get the guitar line alone from recordings of songs from bands that don't exist any more in some cases, while the non-bonus songs are from bands/groups/people who are still around and presumably capable of providing the necessary masters 'n stuff for use in-game. |

My favorite reply to that when people talked about the first one was: "Getting Jimi Hendrix to play was prohibitively expensive." |

Because it's generally much cheaper to buy the rights to cover a song than it is for the rights to the song itself. |
