The first Gamer's Quarter podcast was about the game Noctis. Someone in said podcast described Noctis as being a "lonely game" due to the fact that you're a single explorer in a vast galaxy and you never encounter a single other being, save for a couple of wild animals if you're lucky and have decided to explore the right kind of planet. I also wrote an article around the same time about Shadow of the Colossus that described the landscape in that game as "lonely", for much of the same reason that Noctis was described as "lonely". However, it should be noted I never actually described Shadow of the Colossus as a "lonely game".
The anti-pretension crusaders here picked up on the term and decided to use it to rail against the perceived "New Games Journalism" that everyone has decided The Gamer's Quarter represents, as well the perceived pretension that these forums have come to represent. Now it's just a stale in-joke that most people are tired of hearing as due to this very threads existence.
That said, Noctis is a lonely game you fuckers. |

The reason we're in Lonely Game Zone act 3 is because it is the season when young men's thoughts turn to those big fat games you get lost in of a cold winter's eve.
See: MGS3, Shadow of the Colossus, random Zelda, Dragon Quest series. |

The major problem with TGQ is that the pretentious-crap-to-interesting-article ratio is way too high on the pretentious-crap side of the equation. Too much "evokes a sense of loneliness," not enough interesting things to say about interesting subjects. |

Dear Diary,
Today I got tired of the people on Insert Credit always ironically applying the "LONELY GAME" label in every single fucking thread. I tried to complain about it, but maybe I didn't do a very good job because people seemed to lump me in with the obnoxious posters who've been perpetuating this trend. Also people made fun of me, but it wouldn't be the internet if they didn't so I'm not too bothered by that. Still, I don't think I advanced my cause very far at all.
Maybe tomorrow will be better. I'll write more then.
Good night, Diary. |

One of the reasons I like Ultima IX is that when you're out exploring and in the dungeons it's a lonely game, but when you're in town it feels kind of warm and fuzzy and most of the NPCs are stupid so you don't feel lonely
Ultima VIII was genuinely all the time lonely, though, especially when you're talking to people. I think the opening city is one of the best mood setters I've ever seen in a game.
a third lonely action-RPG people didn't like: King's Quest 8! It's very lonely compared to previous games in the series.
in conclusion, lonely game isn't just a concept - it's a decade's old movement! |

But oligophagy, that wouldn't be satisfying! Why can't I just let my randomest whims compell me to irritate everyone, while simultaneously winning me fame and influence? |

Tetris with invisible blocks on all the time. Then it's lonely but with a sense of urgency.
